August designated Steelband Month


Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - August 2010 will be a busy month for the steelpan and Pan Trinbago as the governing body observes Steelband Month “Total Local.” The celebration, in commemoration of the 18th Anniversary of the declaration of the Steelpan as the National Musical Instrument of Trinidad & Tobago, will be observed with a number of planned activities throughout the twin islands.

The “month” will commence with an Interfaith Service at the Trinity Cathedral on Sunday July 25th at 11:00 a.m. with the blessing of the steelbands’ flags. Several other events including an Awards Ceremony in recognition of individuals who have made sterling contributions to the development of the steelband movement is carded for Saturday August 14th at the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA). Funds generated from this gala affair will go towards the Sydney Gollop Benefit Fund.

  • Did the Government Officially Declare August "PAN MONTH"?
    • Pantrinbago must lobby the Government to officially declare August "Pan Month". The Minister of Culture must make the proposal in Parliment and see who will vote against our National Instrument. Check out "Panmageddon".
  • GREAT GREAT GREAT I am IMPRESS AUGUST 2012 we will celebrate our Golden Independence and our National Instrument will be rightfully honoured!
  • PLEASE, Please, Mrs Prime Minister of T&T please declare August 24-31, 2012 Steel Pan Week to mark our 50th and Golden year of independence.
