Trinidad and Tobago Newsday

Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - Late steelpan pioneer and innovator Bertram  “Bertie” Marshall received a great posthumous honour yesterday when the Old St Joseph Road in Success Village, Laventille was renamed “Bertie Marshall Boulevard”.

The road was unveiled yesterday during a ceremony attended by steelpan practitioners, calypsonians, Government officials and residents. Present at the event was Marshall’s wife, Annabelle, and other relatives. His granddaughter Damara Marshall said she was proud the memory of her grandfather was being honoured especially on the street where he spent “many happy and productive years”.

She noted he was a man of many talents who left a rich legacy, a steelpan innovator extraordinaire and recognised by both the local and international steelpan communities.

Marshall was the pan tuner, arranger and captain of Highlanders Steel Orchestra and many former and current members were present yesterday at the event.
