Bertram "Speedy" Ash has passed

I heard Bertram passed sometime this week, I think he was sick. I never knew his last name, but I knew him in City Symphony in the 60' , then he went to Desperadoes, I was hoping that someone would post the info on pan times. He was a know person in the pan world. May he rest in peace, Amen

  • They can't stop Mr. Franklin, you have the pan history tops...Pan Trinbago should give you a job.

    • Thanks Mr. Gittens

    • I 2nd and 3rd that, Ian Franklin definitely knows his job, they probably don't want to hire him, cause their job might be on the line, but Ian will be a great asset to Pan Trinbago. I think we need to open a new Forum on this

  • Ian, Pan Trinbago's allocation from the Government takes care of Appearance fees,Assistance to bands,Prize money, payment to players with some assistance with accommodating the Tobago bands that qualify for the Semi-finals and finals to-gether with about two months Administrative expenses contrary to what people believe. All other expenses like rents, payment of judges and Panorama workers, staff etc.are paid from gate receipts and whatever sponsorship the Organisation is able to muster.Hiring therefore depends on what level of sponsorship the Organisation gets.Hope this answers your question.

    • Thanks Mr. McQuilkin for the reply. I merely wanted to offer my services re. your website.  I believe that Pan Trinbago's website should be more user friendly. i.e., more archival information. Please be advised that Tripoli's 1967 3rd place at panorama was due to Tommy Crichlow and not Hugh Borde. Also, the tune of choice for Westside Symphony's 3rd place in 1965 was "Hold on to Your Man," not "Steering Wheel." This may sound trivial, but our pan info must be correct. P.S did you know that Odie Franklin is my nephew?  Thanks

  • I remember Speedy as the only person who could place his double tenor sticks upright on the ground and sit on them comfortably,so comfortable that sometimes he would fall asleep sitting om them.Ask anyone who played on the Desperadoes stage side in the 60s.May he rest in peace.

    • Yes Mac,

I heard about Speedy with that phenomenom, but I never had the pleasure of seeing that great feat.

I know that the Government's budget for PAN is low, but is Pan Trinbago hiring? Please advise.

      • Ian? you will be a good fit in Pan Trinbago, u will get the opportunity to Fix Pan History, lol

        • Thanks Bede,

I hope that I am granted an interview at least. Let's see. This is a trivia for you and all who is locked on.  Len "Boogsie" Sharpe has placed Phase11 second, eleven times.                          Which arranger Steel Orchestra is second. Is it Jit Samaroo and Renegades,                                  Leon "Smooth" Edwards and All Stars, Clive Bradley and Desperadoes or                                   Pelham Goddard and Exodus?

  • May he rest in peace....
