Beverly Ramsey-Moore, Gary Griffith, Terrence Deyalsingh and the illegal Postponement of Pan Trinbago’s election.

Gary Griffith’s contract ended and the policies of the Public Service prevent persons who are on contract to act in positions. So, all kinds of constitutional gymnastics happened to change what existed, to accommodate Mr. Griffith’s desire to act as the Commissioner of Police. In addition, there was a reported lack of process with regards to the handling of the list of suggested persons to act, from the President to the Parliament to the Police Commission. As a result, the situation is now a public scandal which has resulted in resignations and calls for more resignations, even calls for the President of the country to step down. Mrs. Beverly Ramsey-Moore, is your desperation for power not allowing you to learn from the mistakes of others?

A depleted executive of Pan Trinbago is now corrupting the process to achieve their own selfish financial and political ambition. In the recent public pronouncement by Ramsey-Moore, that was published in the newspapers, she claimed that her executive has bands’ signatures affixed to a document which states that the majority of bands approve the illegal postponement of the election. Prior to which, there was no formal debate on this matter. A debate would have allowed all the members to hear the views for and against, to be considered. This constitutional process would have empowered all our members to make an informed decision on this matter of utmost importance, the postponement of our elections.

Contrary to Mrs. Ramsey-Moore’s utterances on the newspapers that, “there is no underhandedness here”, the calling of meetings with selected bands is indeed underhanded. Pan Trinbago's executive selling those selected bands misinformation to fool them, is again underhanded. The executive making decisions and then sending these decisions back to the selected bands to sign, all of which was unknown to the bands that were not selected, that too is underhanded. These actions were not only underhanded but at their core, were corrupt as can be. Which now puts Pan Trinbago back to a place of having to dethrone another corrupt executive.

Madam President, we are calling you out.

In addition, can you say of your list of bands that signed, which bands are you signing, financial bands or unfinancial bands? Up to this week you refused our request to have that list, claiming that it was not completed. Another lie. Please make the two lists available to the members so that we can authenticate those lists as it appears that nothing you report to your members is true.

Your ramblings which inferred that your delegates are too stupid to click on a link to enter a virtual meeting is untrue and embarrassing. You are attacking the intelligence of the people you are supposed to be leading. Pan Trinbago’s members are made up of steel bands and these bands choose delegates from among their band members, therefore it is up to the bands to choose delegates who are competent enough to represent their interests in any type of meeting. Beyond that, we the members of Pan Moving Forward, take umbrage to the statement of our President, suggesting that members over 60 years of age, in the pan movement, cannot use Zoom or learn how to use it. It is unacceptable that after a year and ten months, our President and her executive did nothing to bring members to that desired competence to convene meetings on Zoom or any other such platform.

Beverly Ramsey-Moore, it is a shame that you chose to involve the goodly Minister of Health, the Honourable Terrence Deyalsingh, in your illegal action and are trying to make him an accomplice. We all are reading about the number of Annual General Meetings that are utilizing the approved large gathering guidelines from said ministry. Could we imagine the ruling PNM calling off the 2020 elections, or this year’s THA election, which is carded to happen for a second time next month? Well, if our health minister did not suggest such a postponement for 1.3 million people, why would he suggest it for an election with 370 participants max?

Presently the members of the Sanatan Dharma Maha-Sabha are threatening to take their executive to court for the very same illegal postponement of their election. Madam president, take note. We are demanding that you and your executive cease your corrupt ways. If you have more than half the membership signed for you to stay illegally in office, then call the election and let them give you your extension legally. Stop flouting our constitutional process to accommodate your personal interests like it was done with the police commissioner issue.  On the 1st of November, you and your members term in office would be up and you would become a regular member(unelected) without executive powers. Note that the office will then belong to every member of Pan Trinbago and the chair in which you sit can be occupied by any one of us.
