Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - As an expansion of its existing efforts, the birdsong steelband is from this month offering a free after-school music education programme for early teens and pre-teens.

The after-school programme, which takes place under the reins of the birdsong Academy, will take an estimated 150 students through the theory and playing of the pan and a wide range of instruments, including brass, woodwinds, percussion, voice, guitar and bass, both upright and electric.

Successful applicants will attend training sessions once a week between Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Students will be grouped according to age, a press release from the steelband said.

  • I read your opening:

No Corey. You still do not understand. The mere fact that you are saying that you are surprised the birdsong has such a program tells everyone that you were not aware of what birdsong represents. That is no surprise.

    I CLEARLY said

My point is that I'm not surprised to see birdsong promoting endeavours like youth music literacy... not unlike other associations and universities he has worked with.  Does not make him a saviour, but it doesn't make for an unreasonable association either.

The rest of your diatribe isn't worth the read when you keep twisting the truth for your own soapbox benefit.  Go away.

  • Sorry... Note that I congratulated birdsong in my comment, not Andy Narell.  I am certain this is their organizational initiative.  I think it bodes well for their program.  I'm sure that with or without his involvement, the community around birdsong will make the program a success!

  • Yes, my sense is also that Andy has helped this cause. I am sure there are others who have done their part. Congrats!
    • I think Birdsong has been doing this type of work BEFORE Andy came in the picture.

  • Nice!  Am I out of line to note that Andy Narell, for all the grief that he is served here, has made an imprint on birdsong?  I'm not surprised to see birdsong running with this initiative!  Congratulations, birdsong!

    • Corey: Don't go praising, recognizing or complimenting Andy on this forum. You will get cussed out.

      • You bet......... Andy will be respected, not treated like ah pan GOD.

  • NICE! Positivity and Culture for the Youth <3

  • The Birdsong is a sweet one, they are visionaries, what an example for steelbands.  Good job.

  • congrats…success for all
