2013 Soul Train Awards Acknowledges Trinidad and Tobago’s Soca Genre- Hats Tipped To Bunji Garlin
Recorded in November, the 2013 Soul Train Awards was aired on CENTRIC and BET on Sunday, December 1st. In a category of five, two soca artistes out of Trinidad and Tobago were featured- their names, Machel Montano and Bunji Garlin. In the end, it would be Garlin who would walk away victorious, being presented with the Best International Performance award. The category was not aired on the night, however news of the win spread across Trinidad and Tobago via social media networks, like wildfire shortly after midnight.
Machel Montano who has over the years, worked arduously at putting a spotlight on the genre that is known as Soca, sent congratulations to Bunji via Instagram, saying, “Massive congratulations to @BunjiGarlin on copping the Soul Train award tonight! Well deserved!!! Big Respect to @Sheriffmumbles!!! Take soca to the world.”
Later Kes The Band would post, “The dawn of a new era! Let’s continue to inspire a generation to dream beyond the so called limits and be GREAT. Congrats again to @BunjiGarlin and to the @MachelMontanoHD camp for the nomination. One mission- One Trinidad and Tobago.

I look forward to the MOBO Awards doing something similar.in the UK sometime soon. Recognition of artists like Bunji and Machel is long overdue.

Fantastic opening for SOCA on the world stage and an awesome achievement for Bunji Garlin. Quality of video was quite nice and well produced.
