    Things for Young Panists to be aware of.

    Publishing Rights - Make sure you understand everything about publishing as relates to your music creations. As soon as someone mentions controlling or owning your publishing rights become very suspicious. And if you do share these rights make sure it is for a very limited period - especially if you are working with an unproven entity. Make sure the percentages make sense in your favor. Publishing rights are what will assist in putting your own kids through college, take care of you in your old age and your great grand children. Eat alive, anyone who mentions the word cross collateral to you.

    Online Merchandising - In an age where anyone with a website can have a digital store, be careful as to what your responsibilities are. Compare the rates and benefits to established online stores like Amazon and Itunes. It's not that hard to setup your own store, bolstered by the known benefits of networking within the steelpan community. Beware of the 'middle man'.

    Bugs this discussion has become a tit for tat between you and I,  any time this happens in an open forum the forum is not open any more and is counter productive so from this point I disengage.

      This doesn't change a thing. In spite of your open ended endorsement without having a clue as to how his business works, Mr. Potts still has many questions to answer even if you are afraid to ask them.

    Being the one who started this discussion I think it's my responsibility to apologize to Matt Potts for having to defend himself for being a SMART YOUNG PANMAN. All those who put this young man through the wringer you should be ashame of yourself. To all that followed this discussion would you say that we are YOUNG PEOPLE FRIENDLY?

      Yes, unless the "YOUNG PEOPLE" happen to be Black, poor, and live in low-income neighborhoods. But if they are White, American, Canadian, or otherwise, SURE! We over-friendly then!

      (Now go befriend some "YOUNG PEOPLE" from Bagatelle or Beetham Estate! Would you believe, their are smart, young panmen in those places as well; they are not ALL criminals and gang-bangers. They are the same ones who "invented" pan; from the same race, and from the same place.)

        Agree, and let's not forget the crew from Pashley St. in Laventille, Carenage, and other such castigated areas as well.

      Cecil this not about young people. This is about you and what are your responsibilities before sending people down a  wrong path.  I'm embarrass for you.  Did you do even a cursory check on who Mike Potts is? Did you even  check to see what others are saying about him? Did you call people you trust and know? Did you call Clifford Alexis or Liam Teague, who are members of this board? Did you review any of his contracts or business dealings? Are they legit or abusive?

      Ellie Mannette, Roland Harrigin and others made terrible mistakes that haunt them to this day because they didn't take time to check out the "SMART YOUNG PANMAN" carefully.

      It is amazing to see the same mistakes being repeated.

      Cecil it is you who will have to apologize to the WST Forum.

      And yes Mike Potts needs to defend himself. All of us were no born yesterday or only went to school on Sunday.

        Bugs my brother I am not the FBI, I don't have to investigate Matt or any other person that post on WST. You don't have to be embarrass for me, If I am wrong about something I am man enough to own-up. What I cannot understand is why you are on my case to call this one, call that one review contracts, did I tell you I needed a job? Look my friend I take people at their word if they lie that's not my problem. You would do this discussion a lot of good if you know something to enlighten the rest of us and stop telling me who to call.
