They usually reference THIS CALYPSO as one of the first CROSS OVER CALYPSOS into the INDIAN CULTURE ... of course, we have FULL BLOWN CHUTNEY, today.
Now I am going to cross over into political territory here, but we all have our own perspectives.
The CALYPSOS sung about INDIAN WOMEN were always demeaning. And even today, the YOUNG INDIAN CHUTNEY SINGERS tend to DEMEAN their own INDIAN WOMEN in SONG.
I have lived my whole CALYPSO APPRECIATION LIFE waiting to hear someone sing a CALYPSO GLORIFYING the TRINIDAD INDIAN WOMAN. Now, a lot of people will MISCONSTRUE this -- but it is a deep-rooted discussion ... art is art and CALYPSO IS ART!!!
