Global - True greatness is achieved by those who are able to deliver the goods without compromise on the grand stage, with distinction and excellence. Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Michael Jackson, Pelé, Usain Bolt, The Williams Sisters, The Oscars, The Grammy telecast, cricketing legend Sir Garfield Sobers, Clive Bradley, Len “Boogsie” Sharpe, Muhammad Ali, The Apollo mission to the moon - the list goes on and on. Everyone is presented an opportunity for greatness at some point in their existence. The question is: can you step into the moment and deliver?

Such a moment has presented itself to the new administration of Trinidad and Tobago’s governing body for steelpan known as Pan Trinbago. The upcoming finalé for the 2010 steelband music panorama competition in Trinidad and Tobago is solely a Pan Trinbago production. And they alone bear the ultimate responsibility for how the product they ‘govern’ is presented on the global stage for Panorama finals.

  • Excellent article. You've clearly stated the issues involved.

i must make mention of the fact that though this discussion has been ongoing on this, the premier steelband forum worldwide, there have been no input or response from Pan Trinbago .

I cannot believe that they are unaware of the concerns expressed here. I have to assume that a response from Pan Trinbago will be forthcoming.

The alternative would be that they really don't care.
  • To WST:

I am not sure if this question has been answered. Is CTNTV still charging for the broadcast of 2010 Panorama Finals and other Carnival events? If yes, where do you go to gain access (including price options) to the broadcast? I have been looking for the information, but I am yet to find it.

    Thanks.

    • Hello Mr. Leiba

As of yesterday, When Steel Talks was informed that the Pay-Per-View option on the major carnival activities - including Panorama was still in place. The exact information on how to participate in this process has not been disclosed to WST as of now.

We will share that info with the WST family as soon as it made available to us.

  • Global: I am in total agreement with your thaught provoking article, However, not untill a well designed state -of-the-art Centre
is constructed with all the required amenities will true greatness be achieved for Pan music in Trinidad and Tobago. (I am an Architect an Urban Designer.)
  • Very well said and I don't have a problem paying to enjoy pan, Ialways did, but I don't think Pan Ttinbago and ctntworld thought about that though! Oviously , if they keep doing the same things, they're going to get the same products.
  • You are asking for a lot. Although this is the what we should get for our money, but right now at this moment CTNTWorld can't even deliver their own news feed without stops, sticks and hickups. Is PanTrinbago even aware of this?
    • Bugs, I am in total agreement with you. The left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. The existing feed is atrocious at times! I sincerely hope they (CTNT & PanTrinbago) put their collective heads together and come up with a technologically viable plan for the broadcast.
  • I thoroughly agree with the opinions expressed in th preceeding article. I have no problem paying to see panorama on pay-per view. However are we going to get what we pay for. Yes we want to see the greatest pan show on Earth but we will not pay for garbage; such as frozen pictures, poor sound, horrible images on stage, uninformed commentators. We live abroad and our only connection at this wonderful time of the year is the internet. But we have been grossly disrespected in the type of programming that has been thrown at us. We do our part by paying if they ask for it, but would they do their part as far as quality delivery.
