Caribbean Child Prodigy Dazzles Cuba

Prensa Latina News

Havana, February 21 (Prensa Latina) Saeed Bowman, 11, contrasts with his greatness to play the steelband, a musical instrument from Trinidad and Tobago, which he has played since he was seven.

Invited to the International Book Fair in this capital, as part of the delegation from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, the young prodigy confessed that he found it easy to learn how to play this instrument.

The instrument is known in English as a steel pan, pan or steel drums, and consists of several metal drums tuned to a pentatonic scale (five different sounds), and originally manufactured from 200-liter steel tanks.

According to his father, Roland Bowman, Saeed was introduced to the instrument four years ago, when he read in a newspaper that the Starlift Steel Orchestra had opened a six-week course.

  • another one in the family(cousins) That aint bad. We both play for the winningist band in the world Vinci Starlift. Starlift lost the panorama last year for the first time in about 25 years. Saeed is tutored (on pan) by Raejaun Baptiste(Wilson) and musical education is by Ashley Kirby . One error in the reproduction of the Cuban article is that the Pan is tuned to the pentatonic scale. NO. Absolutely NOT SO. Pan is a fully chromatic instrument like any other instrument. It has no limitations on its tuning. Fully chromatic.  Thanks paddy corea Demon Fuzz and Despers USA & Starlift.
