  • CH, JJJ here, I see U guy's are still at it, i'm back and I have some BOMB'S to drop...

    • JJJ BOMBS away.

  • THE JOURNEY OF TEN THOUSAND MILES BEGINS WITH THE FIRST STEP.....................................

We gave Pan to the world, now the world has BUILDERS, ARRANGERS, PLAYERS, FACTORIES,  TECHNOLOGY and is in a position to match what we do, all because they see the VALUE in what we have.

Today we are left with the Steelband, Carnival and the choice of weather to continue with the same old, same old or move forward.

    • I wish this can come through I will be coming home for Carnival, at least i will have more than Panorama,

  • My heart races when I hear pan music always has, as a young kids to present day. I compose music music for pan ( although I'm yet to hear an interpretation on steel). I do agree with both Cecil Hinksey and Brian Patino, let's lead by example and showcase the steelband on the road like it use to be back in the day, it's not about living in the past, but showing the art form in its proper settings, Steelband started on the road. I also agree that a lot of ignorance toward the pan from a certain section of the youth in Trinidad and Tobago, stems from those who have invested heavily in the sound system. But we must applaud the rising number of youths who have embraced the pan culture... check out the number of youngsters in all the present day steelbands. I believe that one of our mistakes we've made in past years was to showcase the steelband as stage entertainment, ie Panorama, including the jam build up on the green, which is now rivaling the Panorama itself.
Give the youth something to feel good about how far we ( they) because we are putting our most prestigious artform in their hands to take to the future.
It's not about the money it's about the survival of the steelband in our land, or else the Japanese or the Americans will develop it in their way and show us how to do it, then claim it as theirs.
Americans have already claimed that the steel pan is their invention. Wake up my people, this is your legacy use it well.
  • I would support this.  Give it a try.

  • Hi all; this man has been reading my mind and listening to me!

I have been saying this for the past few years, as a simple matter of survival. This is the reasoning behind giving steelbands Ariapita Ave into Park Street on Jouvert Morning. Raw pan music (the sweeeeeeetest) is simply NO MATCH for amplified music and there is a growing tribe of people who devoting jouvert morning to pan music and who know that simply put, the end of jouvert is the end of pan til the next year.

This may sound harsh, but in the long run I believe this is inevitable.

  • I have said it before and I'll continue saying it "the only place the steelband in the Mecca has to go is back on the road" the benefits are enormous in terms of finance and most of all you will be re-introducing the youth to a part of their culture that they have been resisting. Youths do not see the steelband is a source of enjoyment, the "big truck" is blocking their vision, by removing it they now see the steelband and being young they will get with the program.

    • Agree with you Cecil, the  big truck is NOT part of a steel-band. It may seem strange, but many who claim to play pan for many years, as we can see with the responses, still don't the have intelligence to understand. Keep educating Cecil.

  • I second that proposal. Jouvert on the avenue is still plagued by sound systems. Let's put Pan back into carnival.
