Cecil Hinkson: You have your PAN DREAMS and I have mine!!!
You want to see PAN ON THE ROAD rolling on the ground on CARNIVAL MONDAY and you want to see ALL TOWN BANDS rolling through the SAVANNAH for the PRELIMINARY in a sort of MINI-PANORAMA.
Let let me tell you why I have ZERO INTEREST in a BAND like the WDR BIG BAND and what I want from PAN -- especially now that I have my EXAMPLE to SHOW THE PAN WORLD.
I want to see a TRINIDAD PAN PLAYER develop the MUSICAL PACKAGE that ANDY and JONATHAN SCALES and MOLEE CRAVEN and WILSON JEAN-BAPTISTE possess. And it is a whole BIG PACKAGE OF SKILLS, EH!
And I want to see PAN TRINBAGO using their CULTURAL PLATFORM to set up shows around THE WORLD where this PAN PLAYER will perform. There also has be to be LINKAGE with EXPATS who could offer considerable help in supporting THIS PAN PLAYER when he hits the ground in THEIR FOREIGN. (Yuh think anybody in PAN TRINBAGO have the SKILLS or VISION to coordinate this project -- yuh mad oh meh lard oh.)
Now, this PAN PLAYER has to be A MUSICIAN like ANDY and MOLEE and JONATHAN and WILSON. By that I mean that he has to be able to meet a SIX-MAN band in any country he visits and work with the band to produce the show he plans to perform. That takes some serious musical knowledge and interpersonal skills and diplomatic skills and a strength of character to see yourself as a WORLD CLASS PERFORMING ARTISTE communicating with SKILLED MUSICIANS from different countries and wowing foreign audiences with the help of their LOCALS.
This PAN PLAYER should be doing 50 to 60 shows a year showcasing the PAN around the GLOBE.
Now I don't think that anybody from THE MECCA could be as good as WILSON JEAN-BAPTISTE -- but I will settle for 3/4 of his talent (and total package). And for my purposes, WILSON is a little TOO OLD for MY AGENDA. And doh let meh get into describing the appearance of the LOCAL PAN PLAYER -- that will just be MORE BACCHANAL.
So, yuh see!!! BOTH ah we go dead and "WHAT WE WANT" will end up in the GRAVEYARD OF DREAMS otherwise know as THE CEM-EEE-TREE!!!
But ah have ah edge on you: Because I am sure to live long enough to see some FOREIGN PAN PLAYERS living out MY DREAM.
THAT is why we need some SERIOUS LEADERSHIP in PAN TRINBAGO, boy!!! Not a SECRET SOCIETY with a TONTON MACOUTE LEADER!!!
