Mr. Ken Ali's Speech at the 15/01/2015 Media Conference

President of Pan Trinbago Mr. Keith Diaz;

Vice Chairman of National Carnival Commission Mr. Don Sylvester;

Executive officials and employees of Pan Trinbago;

My CNMG colleagues;

My media colleagues;

Other distinguished ladies and gentlemen.

This is an extremely important occasion for us of CNMG.

It is not only because we are initialling the agreement for broadcast coverage of Panorama 2015.

It is also because CNMG and Pan Trinbago are forging a pact to work collaboratively in the name of the steelband fraternity.

By this agreement, the governing authority for steelband and the country’s national broadcaster are undertaking to act as a team for the greater good of the national instrument.

This contract provides for coverage of the next three Panorama competitions.

It also embraces the International Conference and Panorama, scheduled to be held in August.

But it does more than that.

It commits Pan Trinbago and CNMG to work creatively and assertively in the common interests of the steelband movement, including with respect to protecting and preserving precious steelband archives.

We at CNMG are excited about partnering with Pan Trinbago on this noble and patriotic journey.

Pan belongs to us all and CNMG is redoubling its commitment to the interests of the fraternity.

In that respect, CNMG is continuing to distinguish itself from other sections of the media, including those who title themselves as seeking the national interest and welfare.

It is noteworthy that CNMG is the only mainstream media institution that provides faithful annual broadcast coverage of the national festival of Carnival.

In addition, the television and radio stations and digital media platforms of CNMG routinely broadcast events associated with other national cultural events.

We also provide broadcast coverage of the fullest range of religious activities in our diverse society.

Today we recommit to showcasing and promoting all major national cultural and religious activities.

Trinidad and Tobago is a socially and culturally rich society and its expressions deserve the fullest exposure and promotion on national media.

Regrettably, some of our competitors opt for wrestling, international reality shows and American awards events.

With respect to this historic Pan Trinbago agreement, I wish to salute the visionary approach of President Diaz, his Executive and consultants.

The progressive and enlightened proposals of Pan Trinbago made this agreement possible following a single meeting.

Effective immediately, viewers and listeners can expect enhanced coverage, improved efficiencies and even better commentaries and analyses.

CNMG already as the most experience in providing quality broadcast coverage of the national festival.

I take this opportunity to publicly congratulate my colleagues at CNMG.

We again thank Pan Trinbago for partnering with us and we look forward to a long, fruitful and mutually beneficial working relationship.

Most of all, we expect the steelband fraternity and the many aficionados of the national instrument to be the major beneficiaries

I thank you.

    Can someone explain to me what this means?

    • Bugs,

      This is how I interpret the statement, I could be wrong; this prepared speech written by some public relations consultant is a poor example of those who disguised themselves as business savvy professionals.

      The CEO of this media group which is state-owned, in announcing the deal was unknowingly expressing in his statement, that, what people considered standard operating procedures for his company, didn’t exist before and will now change to “effective immediately”, and also could mean their quality of service before was less than desirable.

      This is what real pappy-show looks like in T&T…the truth on the ground says something different.

  • Eagerly awaiting the return of the UTT recordings too!

  • What I want to know is if we will see on-stage recordings on Reverbnation again.

    • I sent a message to PanPot and the reply was,

      " We're sorry to advise you, Pan-Trinbago has restricted our uploading of the music to the steel orchestras only."

      That sucks for us international pan lovers because www.reverbnation.com\pantrinbago was a welcome site to aid in the advancement of culture and also serve as an archive of music. Bands that wont make it through the prelims were at least able to be heard so people overseas that follow their village small side that aint make semis could still hear the tune. Every year we begging for stream or audio...(HINT) Give the people what they want. Awaiting to see how the media coverage will go this year...

      • So the recordings have been made available to individual bands?

        • I don't know for sure but that is what it sounds like to me.

  • The last time CNMG became involved with the broadcasting of Panorama the results were a disaster. Hopefully they will leave the technical stuff to Carnival TV.

  • Does this mean they won't cut the broadcast of the small band finals at midnight?
