Community steel band forming

Musician and area resident Arthur Lipner is forming a community steel band in New Canaan this fall. Like the highly successful Wilton Steel, formed in 2011, New Canaan Steel will accept members of all ages and levels of experience, including none. Guitar, keyboard, bass and drums are also needed. Steel drums can be rented or purchased. Regular rehearsals will take place, with attendance flexible. The plan is for New Canaan Steel to perform in the area next summer, as Wilton Steel does on the patio of Wilton Pizza.

New Canaan Steel could be a perfect fit for adults who always wanted to play in a band but never learned an instrument or to read music, kids as young as seven seeking something interesting and unique, and everyone in between. Repertoire is easy and relaxed. A 30-year music business veteran who continues to record and tour, Lipner insists the band be fun and low-stress.
