A new Junior Panorama 2013 Champion has been determined!
Caribbean Metals Pantime Steel Orchestra is the newly crowned champion Junior Steelband in Saint Lucia. The 35 member youth band, led by Cecil Tortee Philgence captured the top prize at the National Junior Panorama Competition that was held at the National Cultural Centre Grounds on Sunday 28th April, 2013.
The event which was produced by the Cultural Development Foundation, featured the musical talents of seven bands from around the island including two new bands with the participation of approximately 250 young persons between the ages of 6 – 20 years.
Junior Panorama which is now in its 7th year was first introduced by the CDF in 2004 with five bands participating. Following a one year sponsored project with UNESCO, hundreds of young people between the ages of seven to twenty years benefited from the introduction of pan playing. Over the years, CDF has provided opportunities for training young people in the art form from various communities including Laborie, Vieux Fort, Micoud, Babonneau & Castries respectfully.
