Petrotrin Siparia Deltones went home yesterday morning without its $350,000 second place cheque because of a pending investigation into its performance at the Small Conventional Steel Orchestra Final at Skinner Park, San Fernando.

Straight up,,its better for the Leader of Deltones Steel Orchestra to seek the advice of an Attorney, if the situation is not resolved , a compromise is not been had,in a jiffy,,simple. .$.35million is not three cents, players are looking forward to be renumerated.
I agree with you Jerome, but the band is looking forward for $.35 Million not the Players. Some of the Players will never see a penny goes into their pocket.
Back to the rules...
3.7 Limitation on Number of Registrants:
(a) Any player/performer who is registered with Pan Trinbago shall perform/play with only one (1) steelband/steel orchestra.
and...
3.8 Failure to Register- Any steelband that fails and/or refuses and/or neglects to comply with Rules and Regulations of the National Steelband Panorama, with respect to Registration, shall be disqualified from the competition after investigation.
Are we to now expect disqualification of all bands in the Single Pan Finals? Or…wait…"after investigation"….nah...hardly so then….who dey really think dey foolin'?
am I missing something here? Yes, the players and everyone made all those sacrifices to practice, yes it is very odd that a large band could go to small band in just one year -- but that's not the point.
the POINT is that there is a maximum number of players allowed - which everyone knows.
So if they went onstage with more than the number of players allowed, what did hell did they EXPECT? If they get problems, or get disqualified, it is their own fault. The band management is responsible for putting together the stageside - Can they not count?
Why would there be any arguing, or "heated discussion" or "obscene language"? It is a simple matter of COUNTING. They either have more than 60 players or they don't. It's not Pan Trinbago's fault if they get on the stage with too many players, that is their own fault.
this is why i ask if i am missing something, because it just seems so obvious and simple.
If the Band had more the 60 players they should not be allowed to play until the amount reduced to 60. But don't let them play with more than 60 and then disqualify them.
From what i heard (since of course i did not have video, only audio) - the extra players did finally left the stage, and they did allow the band to play when they went down to the right amount of players.
But why would the band management stand up there and argue and cuss about it when it is THEY who were in the wrong and they full well KNEW it.
I do agree with your point that if they were to be disqualified it should have happened right there, not afterwards, and that if they were allowed to play once they met the requirement, that should be the end of it.
Perhaps they are now being investigated because they stood there and argued? i dunno.
Chutney Soca first prize, $2 million, one performer. Small band second place winner, $350.000, 60 players equals $5,833. if divided equally among the players, which we all know doesn't happen and they want to take away from that ?. How in the world do you expect the young people to be motivated when things like this happen?. "Merchant" was right when he said "Pan in Danger".
Sherwin !!nobody cares a damn thing about the sacrifice the youths,elders,,arranger/tuner has made/those who may have brought a snack, endless hours for practice,,the negative feelings now had by all involved ,,remorse, vexation, and all in all not a copper cent,,an opportunity now had to ROB THE PLAYERS,,whereby a deduction can be made from the prize money,,in ending ,,with this type of attitude its just breaking the heart of youths that are trying to stay out of trouble,,thereby sending them back to square one..truthfully it hurts me a lot.
All we can hope for is equity. PANTRINBAGO must be consistent in its application of the Rules and Regulations at the Medium and Large band category finals tonight,
Nah boy…like a talk too fast…read the following...
10.1 (l) Where there is a discrepancy in the results of the tally count made by the duly authorised personnel in conjunction with the officials of the competing steelband, the discrepancy shall be referred to the Panorama Management Committee of the organization whose decision in this regard shall be final and binding upon the steelband.
11.1 Disciplinary Measures - Failure to comply with any of the provisions of these Rules without good and sufficient reason satisfactory to Panorama Management Committee a steelband shall be fined and/or disqualified subject to the findings of Panorama Management Committee, after investigations.
11.2 Consequences of Disqualification- Where a steelband is disqualified by virtue of these Rules, no benefits by way of Appearance Fees, Prize Monies or Assistance to Steelbands will accrue to that steelband.
so I guess we'll have to wait and see...
