  • J'Ouvert started out as a celebration minus amplified sound, so that may no longer hold true.  Now let's get serious.  What are the financial benefits to the promoters, the artists, the city/state, and the larger community(ies)?  The NYPD and other law enforcement agencies are those who financially benefit most from this festival.  Organizers must, must organize themselves to discuss the financial and political empowerment this celebration represents, with the City and State.  If this is not done asap, then we'll continue to complain with no constructive resolution for self-empowerment.  2 to 3 million people in one place at one time, annually, and we have no political nor financial accountability?  Nonsense.

  • My issue is they have  no regards for the bands and people that paid to have a band on the road etc.

  • I witness a DJ mount the sidewalk with his oil and mud followers to overtake two other bands. This is where we don't take charge and when shit happens we run to blame the police. If you don't put a handle on young people you will have greater problems.

  • This is an  areas where pan people should be able to exert  influence over carnival authorities like NCC and WIADCA , but as long as they remain silent, and do not fight back they will be abused , just like they are in T&T , by others who see opportunities to capitalize on the carnival.
