Twenty-six steel pans were delivered recently to Cumnock Academy – not for cooking, but for music.
Earlier this year, Cumnock pupils made a 400-mile round trip to the first ever Scottish Steel Pan Festival in Nairn, Aberdeenshire. They spent the day learning how to play the pans and met renowned instrument maker and musician Toussaint Clarke.
Toussaint, who is based in Bath, said: “I’ve never met pupils who had such a great sense of music in them. They picked it up so quickly, but most importantly they made the pans sing. I can’t wait to see what they are going to do next”.
