THE STATE Security Service of Benue, Nigeria were called to ‘rescue’ 18 members of the Courts Laventille Sound Specialist Steel Orchestra yesterday from a hotel in Benue after claims that they were allegedly misled into going to the east-central State to perform at its Carnival event.

They are at this time being housed at the official residence of Benue’s Governor Gabriel Torwua Suswam along with TT High Commissioner (HC) in Nigeria, Nyahuma Menthuhotep Obika.  Obika is based at Abuja, Nigeria.  He was presented with his instrument of appointment to his diplomatic position by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on January 19 2011.

Speaking to TTnewsflash a Nigerian official, who wished not to be identified, said the steelband left for Benue after performing at Abuja’s Carnival on alleged instructions by Obika that he was contacted by persons from Benue requesting the band to come and perform.  However, it was later discovered that there was in fact no Carnival celebrations in Benue.

  • Well come on board Mr. Forteau (Junior) if you have a comment to make, make it but don't go about and calling WST members gullible and to make it worse at the end of your comment you stated "shame pan people better than that" we are the pan people you want to support your father and his team for a next chance to run PTB, my child we on this forum are about the interest of what goes on in the pan Industry local and Internationally, so when question are ask concerning Courts Sound Specialist and the criteria for the selection on the Nigeria trip don't get self-justifying   just state the facts, let us know the truth and if your band have set a history mark in Nigeria let us know, you  have to be the one to inform us, that's what this forum (WST) is for, sharing and giving information so don't get oversensitive.... do have a bless day Mr. Forteau

    • Apples don't come from a grape vine.

  • We would do anything for a topic on this forum. I am sure The Honourable Minister of Arts and Multiculturalism refuted that article as well as the President of Pan Trinbago don't you people read and listen to the news. I will say to you gullible people none of those things as reported are true. I've heard nothing about the history the Steelband has created in Nigeria since we have arrived here. What a shame pan people better than that.
    • How come no announcement was made to the public about this trip if the Government was involved and the use of public funds? Why was'nt All Stars or another panorama champion band 2012 selected? Diaz likes to say that the people in Nigeria selects the band they want , well i hope it is not our tax dollars because they cannot tell this country which band to send because we must allow our champions to represent us. Once the Nigerians want to select their own band then they should hold private discussions with their chosen band and stand full responsibility for travel, accomodation and meals but once Pantrinbago is involved also our government then no nigerian should dictate which band should be selected.

. By the way Mr Forteau the secretary went to Nigeria along with Diaz and Serrette and he returned after a few days to attend court and two days after his return he flew back to Nigeria. Who Pay????????  Pan people Nah. Ahhhh boy Lord put ah hand.

Where is the transparency ? openess?

    • Mr Forteau, with all due respect Sir, I am curious to find out what was the criteria used to award your band Sound Specialist this trip to the Africa Carnival celebrations? Just asking in the interest of transparency?

      • Bertel, they were Forteau-genic.
