I've been complaining for days, months, years about the lack of a properly produced CD/audio/DVD/Video of a live Panorama performances. Everything I've seen has an armature feel to it. In some places like New York the best you can find is an out of focus smartphone video with distorted audio. New York you are as embarrassing as Trinidad, maybe even more given the resources that are available at your fingertip. I heard Basement was available but now Basement has put a lifetime no-no on those idiots at WIADCA. SMH. UK panorama has something, but there are too many photographers in the video that's a no no. Antigua nothing. Grenada nothing. St. Vincent nothing. St. Lucia nothing. Virgin islands nothing. Australia nothing. Nothing, nothing, nothing.
I final found something. Actually it wasn't me. It Pan Times/WST that posted it. It is a great example of what every band can do on their own. Hire your own film company.

The biggest problem with the production of panorama dvds and panorama music IMHO is the philosophy behind such productions.
Though the quality of these productions have sometimes been disappointing , I think pricing is the biggest problem.
These products are not priced as one would price an item to create or grow a market.
Such a market strategy would result in bargain pricing to distribute the product as widely as possible, to encourage market growth.
Almost a bargain basement approach .even to the point of taking initial losses , to give the product as much visibility as possible.
Many, unfamiliar with panorama would probably spend a modest sum for a panorama dvd , if only out of curiosity.
Once the market is created , you raise prices accordingly.
But this takes the investment of money , time and patience.
Instead , we have the "lets hit a home run" approach i.e. charge what we think will give a decent profit margin , and hope we can make the sales , without any effort to create and expand a market.
Obviously , this marketing strategy has not worked , or we would have been seeing slow , steady growth in the demand for these products..
Glenroy: Very astute posting. But the PAN TRINBAGO administration will need about 20 years of lectures from you before they could even begin to comprehend what you are talking about.
Is there a market for Panorama music? I personally don't think so.
That's my point, Cecil. Such a market has to be created , and it was not. The success of reggae music did not happen by guess, you know.
The reggae market was grown by skillful production and marketing by people like Chris Blackwell of Island Records.
Why do you think that Marley and other reggae musicians insisted on referring to reggae as "Rockets music"?
Because they were skillfully targeting the rock and roll fans , of course!

Glenroy I think they could create a market for pan music, not specifically panorama music.

Any Steelband can create an internet presence detailing its history and promote their products for sale in the global market place. They can offer streaming videos of their bands rehearsals, or Panyard concerts, sell Tee Shirts CD's and DVDs from their site. A step towards self-sufficiency and financial independence.
