When Steel Talks extends condolences to the family and friends of Monsieur François Lachèze.  He was an awesome talent and ardent supporter of the steelpan music movement.

A message from Aurelie Helmlinger

Hello,

Although this information could be overshadowed by Panorama finals, I want to let you know that [the] French pan community is in mourning.

François Lachèze (http://www.panonthenet.com/news/2009/may/FrancoisLacheze-5-9-09.htm), cartoonist and pan lover, died last Friday. He was suffering from lung cancer.

He was a genuine pan lover, a prolific artist (drawings, paintings, sculptures...). He designed many steelband tee-shirts: Calypsociation, Panash, Panart, Yes We Pan (France), Pamberi (Trinidad), Panple (Japan)... He never asked a dollar for that work, although living in poverty. He designed Pamberi’s logo (Three men standing proud), and did the artwork of their last album.

François’s funeral will be held at the Pere Lachaise cemetery (Paris), France, Saturday, Feb. 9 (the day of Panorama Finals...).
