Fyzabad 4th Dimension’s need of a new home is being address by MP Dr. Lackram Bodoe as PMV hamper drives continue.

Pan Moving Forward organized a massive hamper drive for South Steel bands this week. San Fernando, La Brea, Marabella, Gasparillo, Point Fortin, just to name a few of the areas where steel bands benefitted from this initiative. However, today’s article highlights the politicians who supported the bands within the Siparia/Fyzabad, and Penal/Debe area.  Member of Parliament for Fyzabad, Dr. Lackram Bodoe, Nicholas Kanhai, Councillor for Barrackpore West, Javed Mohammed, Councillor of Otaheite/Rousillac, Derrick Bowen, Councillor for Mon Desir and Allan Sammy, Chairman for the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation, who all pledged allegiance to the steel bands from their municipality.

Dr. Lackram Bodoe asked that we continue this initiative, as he is sure that his colleagues and members of Parliament would like the opportunity to make that connection with the steel bands in their respective areas. He always wanted to play the instrument but hadn’t gotten around to it yet and would be leaning on us to make sure it becomes a reality. During the hamper distribution, members of the Pan Moving Forward (PMF) (Growing Stronger Together) group highlighted the fact that the only steel band in the area does not have a place it can call home. The band leader of Fyzabad 4th Dimension Steel Orchestra Mr. Joseph Findley and Dr. Lackram Bodoe agreed to meet at a later date to start the process of finding a home for the band.

Morne Diablo Funkadelic also has land tenure issues but more than that, they are trying to do a rehauling of all their instruments so that when the band resumes practise, they would have a new and improved sound. Both Councillor Mr. Nicholas Kanhai and Chairman Allan Sammy admitted that although there are monetary challenges at this time at the regional cooperation, they would do what they can to assist the bands in their area. Trinidad  Valley Harps, located in Penal, would also fall in their district. Mr. Allan Sammy said that back in the day, he was a professional pan pusher. He lived in San Fernando as a boy and there were pan sides all around but as he self-diagnosed to be tone deaf he never played the instrument. Mr. Kanhai spoke about how steel pan in Hollywood movies immediately conjures images of relaxing Caribbean scenery and how proud he was to identify himself with the instrument.

Mr. Derrick Bowen and Mr. Javed Mohammed, Councillors for Mon Desir and Otaheite/Rousillac respectively, both admitted to having a close working relationship with the two steel bands in their districts. Siparia Deltones and Diatonic had played an integral part in the development of the youth, the culture and the festivals of the area. They are encouraged by the success of the two bands and pledge to continue working with them.

As the good book says, ‘ Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach him to fish and you feed him for a lifetime’. On behalf of PMF (Growing Stronger Together) thank you all, not only for the hampers but for caring. God bless you all and Happy Emancipation.

  • Aquil: How come you are SINGULARLY taking over ALL THESE PAN PROJECTS all over THE COUNTRY (except TOBAGO) and the PAN TRINBAGO EXECUTIVE just SITTING AROUND NOT DOING NOTHING but PREPARING TO WIN THE NEXT ELECTION.

IS BEST you take over PAN TRINBAGO and turn these PAN YARDS into CENTERS OF EXCELLENCE (like BEVERLEY PROMISED TO DO but she was too busy spending the $27,500 a  month to LIFT A FINGER).
