Most of us are not to pleased about the state of the Steelband/Pan in the mecca today, bad leadership has taken a toll on the movement and stagnation is the order of day.
I'm sure we all will like to see positive things start happening, apart from good leadership how can everyone contribute ?

The question was "how can everyone contribute?" So I gave MR. Cecil Hinkson the most DIRECT ROUTE to contribute. But since he wants to sit down at his KEYBOARD in FOREIGN and contribute, I will give him the INDIRECT ROUTE.
(This is a PNM FORUM and 99.9 percent of the posters are diehard PNM SUPPORTERS -- a few of you must have some connections back to the PARTY or The School Girl.)
The easiest way for Cecil Hinkson or any other EXPAT to contribute is to set up a BOOKING AGENCY (Online Booking Agency) to promote TRINIDAD STEELDRUM MUSIC GLOBALLY. I mention access to the PNM MINISTRY OF CULTURE because if you have some sense of OFFICIALDOM backing you (some official portal back to the MECCA and the use of some national or ministerial logo) you can function in the capacity of a DIPLOMAT and gain access to foreign governments and global arts agencies much easier than some standalone operation.
(Actually, STEELPAN TRINBAGO is/was the perfect platform from which to do a project like this but allyuh know the story about them.)
I know one thing!!! Just as Emile Straker recognized (and proved) that there was a GLOBAL DEMAND for LIVE CALYPSO MUSIC -- I KNOW that there is a GLOBAL DEMAND for LIVE STEELBAND MUSIC if it is PACKAGED RIGHT. But it has to be PACKAGED RIGHT. And there will be grave disparity between LOCALS and EXPATS in terms of defining PACKAGED RIGHT. But if people really want progress -- that could be sorted out.
So here is a easy formula for Cecil or anyone to sit at their BIG MIGHTY KEYBOARD PEN and contribute to see positive things start happening for the STEELPAN or STEELDRUM or STEELBAND or PAN or whatever else allyuh want to call the instrument.
Claude
My Brother you seem to have a problem with me sitting by my keyboard and saying what I say, you say more than me and I ain't see you lookin to relocate.
This is a steelband/pan site so it's obvious what the topic will be about, because you have an opinion don't mean that you are willing to join any group, this is the reason why many refrain from making a comment.
Sorry, I don't need any help finding a formula or how to contribute, been doing that on my own for some time.
It is not my desire to be the brightest bulb in the building, however I strive to be like the one that laminates over the exit sign when there is a power failure.
Cecil: You KNOW that I am not a FLAG WAVER for PAN. You know my views on the PAN and REALITY seems to be playing out my cynical opinion. I would like to see MUSIC coming from the INSTRUMENTS and I would like to see "DIPLOMATS" touring and showcasing the instruments but there is an ADMINISTRATIVE failure from TOP to BOTTOM that is not going to correct itself in my LIFETIME or YOURS.
Globally, the instrument is moving in leaps and bounds but the keepers of the castle have been left behind an no amount of coaxing from the outside or this forum could bring them up to speed.
Two STEELBAND judges were invited to judge STEELBAND MUSIC in the last SOUTH AFRICAN Marimba and Steelband Festival. Do you know who they were?
Locals have to be happy that epats has taken an interest in what's happening in the Mecca, we are keeping the issues on the front burner which in turn will be beneficial to pan people.
I've said it before progress will come when we learn to use the this medium [internet] in a positive manner.
Return to TRINIDAD. Face the crime. Set up some independent PAN organizations. Become a part of a team that makes positive things happen.
You cannot make things happen by sitting and typing in FOREIGN.
Claude you are the biggest thorn in Pan Trinbago's butt. Your pen is a dagger. Pan Trinbago can handle folks on the ground. They've been doing a pretty good job of it. It's the Internet they can't handle. Have you ever notice there is no place to leave a public comment on Pan Trinbago's site?
bugs
The Internet is used in everything today, it is up to pan people to use it for moving forward. For years we have been talking about Pan Trinbago coming up short, today most people realize that they have had their day, it's time to start looking for change. It's not business as usual, anyone that represents the pan movement in the Mecca has to deal with WST on the World Wide Web.
People sit and type and make things happen all over the world every day.
Cecil, Not in Trini. Dat doh wuk!
Bertel: All dem EXPATS love to talk about HOW MUCH DEY LOVE PAN but when you ask them to LIFT A FINGER FOR PAN -- well ah didn't know/man coulda back back so!!!
