February 11, 2016: It was a good start to the year from pan in Tobago, with an unprecedented 14 bands from the island making it to various Panorama finals.
Tobago had the most success in the Medium Band category, with NLCB Buccooneers and Petrotrin Katzenjammers finishing second and third respectively. Katzenjammers manager Beverley
Ramsey-Moore says it’s a sign that pan is on the rise in Tobago.
“I think was a fantastic performance,” Ramsey-Moore said. “We represented out community Black Rock, we consider ourselves the pride of Black Rock.
“We also represented our sponsor and Tobago. We have made a statement in Trinidad and among the national community that the Tobago bands are not to be taken for granted. Pan is our
instrument and we must never remove pan from the community.”
Ramsey-Moore says the improvement is the result of cultural development on the island. She wants more emphasis placed on the national instrument in communities, saying it is already bearing fruit.
“The pan is community soul and I think that’s where we have the edge on Trinidad bands (because) of our Steel pan programme,” Ramsey-Moore said.
