HERE’S WHY BOOGSIE WILL REBOUND FROM HELLO

Remember What More Love Did To Smooth's Bounce and Drive?

Back to the Archives - The Year of 2013

...More props, too, go to Sharpe and his band of merry men, the final night graveyard performance having pushed them to exhaustion following a long, hard slog to the top. The mission to dislodge All Stars from their two-year hold on the spoils of pan had denied the historic Duke Street orchestra a vaunted hat-trick.

Sharpe entertained the audience with so much doo doo darling, it must have left him spent. Even in the recent Panorama, Hello didn’t answer his call. Some Phase II fans are seeking redemption, as in “Do Something for We.”

Panatics would relish his turning his back on OPMs (Other People’s Music) and facing his own music sooner than later. And it won’t be pleasant. Sharpe will need to run down his buddy, Smooth, with a piece of music more alluring than, say, Woman on the Bass, or Curry, whatever. Not only that, Duvone Stewart, the Brooklyn Three, Clive Zanda,  Arddin Herbert and Liam Teague, they ain’t coming out to play.

They too hungry. Lotsa ‘splainin’ to explain.

Not no mo.

‘Cos, It is required of Len Boogsie Sharpe to do something for pan, the way he shoved his own message down Pan Trinbago’s throat in 2011. Do Something For Pan made for a fine opus that J'Ouvert morning. Revelers mouth-panned the arrangement as if Boogs were, well, not God, but the pan deity who one night would stop Leon Smooth Edwards in his tracks and rob the Stars of a hat trick just so.

And how would B Sharpe gift wrap it?

From your pal, Boogsie, More Love.

Wait till next year?

What you want to bet that 2019 won’t be as simple and easy as that?

  • They all have to come real good in 2019, because Duvone and Renegades have set a new standard!!! > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4NWIXfIyu0&t=25s
    • Andre: Dem fellahs ALL OVER THE PLACE. After PANORAMA dey so DIZZY dey say DUVONE done win the NEXT THREE YEARS (2019- 2021). Now dey BORED and DALTON trying to RAISE THE DEAD -- dey jumping back on the BOOGSIE BOAT!!!

But as soon as PANORAMA 2019 starts approaching they will all take the DUVONE PILL again!!!

However, I don't like the "new standard" of throwing in everything including the kitchen sink. I call that DESPERATE MUSIC!!!

      • Drama-Rama 2019...

      • True, and I grew up with PhaseII as my band, but what I look for is good music where arrangement and performance count, and truly HELLO was disconnected many I spoke to found SOKAH was better suited to PhaseII (of note, neither one was his "own tune").  What I am looking for is for ALL the steelbands to step up their game and if they do dat something for pan, then the pan movement will benefit.  It's my understanding that Boogsie was the first arranger to call Duvone to offer his categorical congratulations.  After all, All Ah We Is One Family, ent...

  • BOOGSIE sign ah BIG MONEY CONTRACT with HADCO and that diluted his MUSICAL PASSION!!! Allyuh better start looking for ah next MUSICAL GENIUS!!!

    • This is DUVONE STEWART time without ah doubt, he must be given the respect. This is how it is in life, as one star dims another shine bright.

Honestly speaking if there is a Panorama next year, Boogise might not make out of semi-finals. This is not a knock on his genius. But attitudes and tastes have changed.

    bugs

    • Bugs, they cyah leave out Boogsie from the semis, you want we mash up the Grandstand and Northstand or what? but the pressure is on for Sharpe, but he has the whole year to put down 8mins of music if he applies himself there's no doubt in my mind he could be more TROUBLE than Vanessa.

  • With Hatters and Antillean All Stars regrouping with some veteran players and looking to elevate back to Large and with the success of CAL Skiffle with the three N.Y. amigos arrangers Boogsie Sharpe days are numbered. South/Central is already dominating the Medium and Small Band categories in Pan Elders and Golden Hands and want to bring a full force in the Large . NLCB Fonclaire with its second year arranger will be stepping up their game because we all know that Leon Foster Thomas has now gotten the feel of the band . Hello from the southland !

    • Skiffle yes... but are you sure about Fonclaire?
