... I challenge any CALYPSO LOVER to find a more PROFOUND COUPLET than that.

I am a CALYPSO LOVER (PAN IS NOISE) so sometimes I get enveloped in the BEAUTY OF THE EXPRESSION. Because I am a REAL TRINIDADIAN (I eh come on NO BOAT) and I have a TRUE LOVE for that ARTFORM.

Now we have  A TOBAGONIAN (and ah NEXT TOBAGONIAN) hijacking the CALYPSO and PAN CULTURE in TRINIDAD so that they could STEAL MILLIONS just like THE PNM DID IN THE THA ... and they are ending up KLLING THE CULTURE OF TRINIDAD

  • I don't want to HATE ON LOVE/But sometimes I KEEP DEBATING ...

By definition, a couplet is a pair of successive lines of verse, especially a pair that rhyme and are of the same length.

With that clearly defined, I must acknowledge that I would be in over my head to ever, or even think of challenging your choice of profound lyrics of an artform of which you are most knowledgeable.  That is not, nor could it ever be my intention.

However, I would like to offer, for your professional consideration, the following two successive lines of a calypso I remember hearing when I was a young impressionable lad.  They do rhyme, and are roughly of the same length; but, more importantly, they are highly expressive, undeniably succinct, and yet are able to accurately and successfully convey a local Trini message.

For your analysis, Claudius, I offer the following two lines:  "Dem wabeen women, they mind so low / if a razor blade fall, dey could pass below."

Of course, with your innate Trini-to-the-bone lyrical ability I know you have already synthesized the above to read: "Dat soucouyant woman, she mind so low / if a razor blade fall, she could pass below."     ;-)  wid $27,500 in she pocket every month.  :-)   :-)

I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the calypso.  Would you be so kind, Claudius?

I am relying on our resident musical librarian (or, anyone) to upload a video/audio clip.  That would make my day.
