DE HUSTLER AND DE DIASPORA - PART FIVE OF ANY OF MANY
On consecutive Sundays, March 17th and 24th 1991, Mr. Sanch recorded nine of architect/pianist Clive ‘Zanda’ Alexander’s compositions and four ‘covers’ with an esteemed cast of T&T musicians - Annise Hadeed, Steelpan, Percussion, Whistler; Fitzroy Coleman, Acoustic Guitar; Mervyn de Gannes, Drums; Gerald Charles, Double Bass; Mungal Patasar, Sitar and his son Prashant, Tabla.
The venue was La Boucan lounge/restaurant, Trinidad Hilton Hotel where Zanda played the resident Steinway baby grand. Some of the music was subsequently released on the Delos International Label as DE4017 Pan-Jazz Conversations. The entire repertoire has since been remastered and re-issued in HDCD format as CD0306-2, one of the SANCH Special Edition Series.
At the time Annise resided in London as a member of the Breakfast Band and arranger for Ebony Steel Orchestra. De Hustler is one of the many songs that he has contributed to the SANCH catalogue, as player and/or arranger and today’s story is dedicated to him.
Mr. Sanch concludes that Zanda and Annise are more symbiotic than monozygotic twins and is confident that you’ll concur.
WE shouldn't be 'hustling' in 2019. I take it you meant in the pejorative sense. By now we should have strategies and plans to be the mecca for: PAN the family of instruments; manufacturing, R&D, Innovation. MUSIC recorded and performance, including scores and instructions. and talent. HISTORY welcoming the world's students and historians WE have enough bright and talented people here. BTW: The violin also had a similar negative reception.
Very interesting discussion. I agree with SANCH that PAN continues to be a HUSTLE. And I could write a VERY LONG STORY ABOUT THAT.
But I am not sure that I have the FULL CONTEXT on this discussion so I will end it here.
However, I SEE the outside world of PAN closing in on TRINIDAD -- so it would be great if people start WORKING TOGETHER to further our cause.
And, odw, I love your dedication and BOLDNESS!!!
Mr. Kevin Scoon, this is where you and I disagree ("WE have enough bright and talented people here") and this is the argument (false argument) that got me involved in this whole PAN TING.
But I do have the greatest RESPECT for you!!! PAN needs people like you AT THE TOP!!!
