If We EXPATS had not Migrated Overseas would we be Hell Bent on bringing back Pan playing and rolling on the road on Carnival days or would we be just as the locals in the mecca of Pan accepting that Playing pan on Trucks on carnival days is a step in the right direction. the Expats is determined to keep the tradition and Nostalgia of the Steelband alive on carnival days by pushing and playing pan on the road which is very good and the Local Pan Players, fans, and supporters seems to be very happy with playing pan on Trucks on Carnival days. Are the Expats in tune with the Steelband Movement in the Mecca of Pan ? or will the Steelbands in the Mecca of pan think or say pushing and Playing pan on the Road for carnival is not change it is going back to the past ? As a Steelband lover I want what is best for Steelbands on carnival days.BLESSINGS.

    • cedric meintosh, I have the same discussion going on Carnival Dying, maybe if we keep it together we'll get more people responding. just saying.

  • Well people if this topic of discussion has reached it's final conclusion let me know so i can move on with my own business, because from experience i know trini's love to start sh........t they cannot finish.

  • Cedric, yes it did.

  • And we cannot forget folks  , whatever steelands do at carnival , if it is more than just panorama , will require MUSIC.

In other words , bands will have to learn a repertoire of contemporary party music , even if , like in the old days , we have to resort to pop and other genres.

Having a band where the majority of players know only one or two tunes including the panorama tune juist won't do.

So it will mean work , and planning.

  • Cedric it is not that players don't have the ability or can't multitask. You have situations where players tell you they are not interested to play on the road and it comes from mostly the cream of the crop and others let you know they are only playing for panorama,so you get mediocre road players. Some bands who happen to learn three or four tunes are the ones who do that for the arranger to select one of them for panorama. Others listen to different tunes and come with the panorama choice, so the band learns that tune and nothing else and Sunday see what they can do for the road with whoever is interested to play.

    • Gerard tell me something,is this something that started years ago and escalated as time went by?(Iam talking about the attitude of these players be they the younger players or the veterans.)Because i am trying my best to read you clearly, because it seems as though they are as much a hinderance to the progress of the pan movement as everything else that's hindering the growth of the pan movement.I hate to believe this is part of the problem, the good thing is with a lot more education this can be fixed but it will take a lot of time. They have the ability to be just as productive as players of yesteryear but they are also unwilling to make any sacrafices unless you can convince them that they will be justifiably compensated for their work and their time. How do we fix this,i guess more dialogue with these players are needed to even have a conversation about plying pan on carnival days along with incentives.Well the beat goes on untill the melody is changed.

    • If you pay the panorama money after carnival, you push back panorama 2 weeks so you keep the pan yard activity going for the next 2 weeks learning road tunes you might loose a few but you might be able to attract enough for your road side. You get the media pumping the steelband day, you could have a decent first year, after the first year things will keep getting better.  This is my solution I sure there are other ideas out there if we all pool together we MUST come up with a workable solution.

  • Could somebody please do a rewind of the late merchants pan in danger.
