South Africa will be blown away by the marimbas and steelpans at the Education Africa International Marimba and Steelpan Festival.

It will be held at Bishop Bavin School in Bedfordview, Gauteng on 4 and 5 August 2012.

Be prepared for over 1 000 marimba and steelpan players from all over South Africa and the rest of the world in what looks to be the musical event of the year in Gauteng.

This Festival is for everyone. Lovers of music will be entertained at the various marimba and steelpan competitions being held throughout the two fun-filled days. There will be concerts and performances for lovers of classical music, jazz music and above all African music. National photographic and art competitions in ALL age categories are also a feature of this family-orientated festival as well as composers composition competitions. Come and experience a truly international music festival with something for all ages. Besides the competitions at the festival you will be entertained by a number of our national musical treasures: Dave Reynolds on steelpans and Magda de Vries on classical marimba as well as Alex Jacobowitz, classical marimbist extraordinaire from Germany.

There will also be on offer a variety of workshops from djembe drumming, African dances to steelpan playing as well as featuring the DPHS gumboot dancing workshops.

All workshops and performances are open to the public. There will be something for the entire family. There will also be a flea market and many food stalls. So you can shop till you drop while you are being entertained.

This is a Proudly South African event which is open to the rest of the world. How proud we will be when we show off through this Festival how far South Africa has come in its emerging democracy. This festival has attracted young and old, black and white, abled and physically and mentally challenged people from not only the privileged communities of our country and abroad but also from rural areas and disadvantaged communities.
