Proceeds from concert go toward scholarships for FCHS students
The Parrot Pan, Toucan Steel Band and the Knock Knock Marimba Ensemble, along with jazz guitarist Bill Hoffman and the Calypso Island Horns, will have you smiling as you embark on an audio trip to the Caribbean on Sunday, Nov. 6. Proceeds from the concert will support the SML Lions Scholarship Trust for Franklin County High School seniors. These performing ensembles, all composed of SML residents, share the island sounds of the steel pan drum from Trinidad and Tobago and the marimba from Guatemala.
The music of the Islands will fill Rocky Mount from the stage of the Harvester Performance Center. The concert is at 4:30 p.m. and the doors open at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $15.
The SML Lions Scholarship Trust has been helping FCHS students meet their educational goals for 23 years. What began as a program solely for students attending 4-year Virginia colleges and universities has expanded.
With the introduction of “Transfer Scholarships,” it now serves students who take advantage of CCAP - the program that makes Virginia Western Community College available tuition-free to graduates of FCHS. The Transfer Scholarship supports these students later at the Virginia college or university of their choice
