This is something worth trying, if only with the 7 bands in the city, the possibilities are endless.
There MUST be a difference between the sound of a steelband in motion and that of a band, set up on stage. Judging ???
Masai Hall , I think it is the vibrations of the steelband that is felt by supporters due to the proximity to the pan on the drag , or even when the pans are conveyed mechanically , but close to the ground.
It was that vibration that had us following steelbands for miles back in the day , even when they played a simple syncopation.
Today , many of us are so caught up in the arrangements and artistry of playing the pan , we ignore or forget about that special vibration that made us "pan jumbies".
Glenroy, playing and seeing supporters enjoying themselves around you is not about competition, it's about enjoyment, they need to bring back enjoyment to the steelband.
From (roughly) 1946 to 1986 PAN AROUND THE NECK and PAN ON RACKS (with people pushing) had a good run. And people who grew up in the FIFTIES and SIXTIES thought that was heaven -- which was their right. But then, according to some people, the strike in 1979 opened the door for the DEE JAYS and the cookie started to crumble then. That is kind of debatable with me because I remember being in Trinidad for Carnival 1977 and seeing the DEE JAY set up around Shell Savannah Club and being transfixed by the CLARITY and LOUDNESS of the music; so it seems that the serpent was lurking long before 1979.
Now it had new people growing up in the NINETIES and the TWO THOUSANDS and the TWO THOUSANDS TENS and the TWO THOUSAND TEENS. (SURPRISE!!! SURPRISE!!!) But why the people who grew in the SIXTIES and SEVENTIES want to take the following generations back to the SIXTIES and SEVENTIES is beyond me. Nobody didn't try to take them back to the TAMBOO BAMBOO days.
78 percent of the PANORAMA PLAYERS today are YOUNG PEOPLE. And if they wanted to PUSH PAN ON THE ROAD for CARNIVAL -- that is what they would have been doing. But they LOVE DEE JAYS and BIG TRUCKS!!! BIG TRUCKS give the CARNIVAL a modern day feeling!!!

After Carnival done in TRINIDAD there isn't even a DISCUSSION PANEL on the ROLE OF PAN IN THE CARNIVAL. PAN has ZERO ADMINISTRATION outside of RUNNING PANORAMA.
MINISTER OF CULTURE? In title only!!! Colin Lucas has a FULL YEAR this time around -- and then we will hear from him on March 7th, 2019 about the radical changes he plans for Carnival 2020.
So who is going to push this agenda to get PAN ROLLING in the savannah and PAN ON THE ROAD FOR CARNIVAL?
And who will listen to some OLD MEN who abandoned their HOMELAND decades ago and who now want to sit thousands of miles away and tell the TRUE PATRIOTS how to RUN DEY CARNAVAL.

There is some merit in this conversation. Like many people from this ‘by-gone’ era we would simply regard this topic as nostalgia, and, rightly so. However, I have a different concept of this type of activity because of some on-going research work. The concept of “pan rolling” like in the hey day of the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s is a thought that could be re-studied, re-tooled and re-outfitted for the 21st century. Of course, the streets are quite impractical, primarily because of the amount of motor vehicles, but designated areas and the idea of setting this up as a separate entity away from the carnival and panorama may also be able to satisfy some international recognitions in marketing and thereby result in financial benefits.
And who going and PUSH DEM PANS with the 100 plus players playing? Ah know for sure that VANESSA HEADLEY and GOLDEN HANDS eh PUSHING NO PAN -- she was quite EMPHATIC about that.
Another MILLION$ to TRANSPORT the bands to the SAVANNAH. Of course, Keith Diaz will bill 1.2 MILLION$ and pocket 200,000 for himself. And then the USUAL SCAMS with the TICKETS where he will pocket another $50,000. And then the SPONSORS will pay for advertising and all that money will go to KEITH DIAZ and FORTEAU. And then EVERY VENDOR will have to pay a fee for their SPACE and that will put another $25,000 in Keith Diaz pocket. And then this little hustle and that little hustle.
Next thing you know KEITH DIAZ and his FINANCIAL ADVISOR walk away from THE ROLLING ON THE GROUND with about $500,000 each.
PUSHING PAN was part of the EARLY EVOLUTIONARY PHASE of the PAN MOVEMENT.
How is the young generation going to PUSH PAN with a CELL PHONE in one hand and a BOX of KFC in the other?

Cecil Hinkson, you are absolutely correct. Young people thrive on multi-tasking, it is what they do best.
The way forward is to stop finding 'a problem for every solution' and concentrate on the solutions.
