  • Panorama Large Steel Orchestra Finals 2024

  • Buheheh what's over?

I understand All Stars  is playing Inventor this year. Arranger Mia Gormandy.

    • Attn:  Mr A. L. Nunes:
What’s over, you ask?  Sir, let me explain anecdotally.
I was patiently and slowly mingling my way pass the much younger crowd at Duke Street.  My aim was to position myself just behind, or next to, three grey-haired fogeys (whom I didn't know).  Grey hair seeks out grey hair, I’m constantly being reminded.
Five, probably ten minutes — Success!

So as I'm standing there, leaning on my trusted cane, minding my own business, but eavesdropping, ah maco-ing, nah … I overheard one of the fogeys educating his other two padnahs: “Boie, this tune is a gem - it is a pastiche that resurrects and reflects Kitchener's brilliance."

By chance our eyes met, and I smiled and nodded as if I knew what he meant.  I didn’t.  I still don’t.

But as soon as I heard the tune my gut feeling was immediate — “It’s over.

I was so delighted that I wanted to seek out ODW’s revered opinion.  This I did on January 11th, the date of this initial post.

On the morning of February 11th, today, (one month later) the 2024 Panorama judges confirmed — It is over.

[ I only hope it is not said that ODW or myself swayed the judges with our vaticination.  :-)  :-)  :-) ]

Now, know this! … For some indisputable pan lovers, Panorama is Carnival.  For others, Carnival is Panorama.

Yet, for a few grateful old fogeys, … well, … I’m convinced they will be enjoying this tune on the road, all of Monday and, all of Tuesday, … coz true to the Inventor lyrics … “Dey doing dat since dey small.”

And to reiterate what I stated yesterday, hours before the start of the Rama:

      Trademark Panorama Smooth.

      1973, 1980, 1981, 1986, 2002, 2007, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017, and 2024.

Way to go, All Stars!  Well done!  Congratulations!
Genuine congratulations to Renegades also (their 13th title, WOW!).  I tremble to think of the sweet musical package that Duvone would have created had their tune of choice been Inventor
ps.   Renegades and All Stars tied for 1st place each garnering 285 marks.  They each received a ‘Winner’s trophy’.   Prior to 2024, were there ever joint 1st place winners in the annals of Panorama, say f’instance, between Renegades and Desperadoes,(perhaps in 1985)?  And if so, would you know if each of the joint winners received a 1st place trophy soon thereafter the results were announced?  Asking for a friend.
Stay alert and enjoy a safe Carnival!!  Blessings.
    • Ah take it All Stars not going with Nadia?
