Trinidad Newsday
A JAPANESE cruise ship, ‘Asuka II’, arrived yesterday on its inaugural visit to Trinidad and Tobago — nine days after Japanese national Asami Nagakiya was found strangled on Ash Wednesday under a large tree at the Queen’s Park Savannah.
The ‘Asuka II’ docked at the Cruise Ship Complex in Port-of- Spain at about 7.28 am, with 500 passengers and 700 crew members aboard.
The vessel is expected to leave Trinidad shores this afternoon.
The crew members and visitors aboard the awarding-winning, luxury cruise line disembarked to explore the nation’s capital. The tourists were taken on a tour of the Port-of-Spain, Fort George, Angostura House and a Steelpan factory. A statement from the Tourism Development Company Limited (TDC) stated that the ship’s call to Trinidad is part of a world cruise with a 100-day itinerary that began in Tokyo, Japan.
