JMHS Steel Drum Band is Marching Into W.Va's Capitol

By Nate Fluharty

A local high school band ensemble has been selected as one just a few groups to play in Charleston in the coming weeks.

John Marshall High School Band Director Tracey Filben says she submitted for the Steel Drum Band to play an entire concert, rather than just perform one song.

The group will play at the Charleston Civic Center at the West Virginia Educator's Conference on Friday, March 11th.

Filben and the students say they're looking forward to it.

"We're really excited at the thought of putting on an entire performance so our guests can hear many selections that we perform," said Filben.

Joseph Lucey, a third year member of the band told WTRF.com, "I am excited, this is something new for us, so I am glad we're able to make this journey."

Kailey Filben, a first year member added, "I think we're all just really happy to play on this conference. We're really excited."

The Steel Drum band has been practicing during their classes every day.

Their performance is set for 1 p.m.
