LAUNCH of CARIBnet!! NEW INITIATIVE FOR THE LIVE INTERACTION OF PANNISTS, from Northern Illinois University (NIU), The University of Trinidad & Tobago (UTT), and, the UK at the Headquarters of JANET, at Didcot in Oxfordshire.

I am delighted to have been instrumental in facilitating, from the UK, TODAY, 26th FEBRUARY 2012, the interaction of Pannists from the 2 Educational Insitutions and global organisation mentioned above, re. the concept of a "Master Class" style presentation, for exponents of Pan in each locality. Today's participants included Liam Teague, Associate Professor of Music at NIU; Leon "Smooth" Edwards (UTT/NAPA), and our very own, Debra Romain, THE "Pandiva", from London UK. DEBRA is the Music Director for the teaching of Pan and associated activities, at Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge University. The inititiative was led by the Director of the Music Faculty at NIU, Dr. Peter Bauer.

Today's historic LIVE demonstration will eventually allow Pannists, Arrangers, Musicians and Teachers to work together regularly, ONLINE, across the globe, in collaboration with the above-mentioned institutons/organisations ... In Debra's own words, "I was very moved at the experience of the CARIBnet launch... I feel blessed to have been part of that historic demonstration, live from the 3 locations, which will allowed me to interact online, at a personal level, with top pannists, musicians, arrangers and teachers".......

Lots more to come... so WATCH THIS SPACE!!

  • Just saw your launch of 'Caribnet' and would like to let you know there are at least 2 other Caribbean organizations with that name. The older, with which I am involved, is the Caribbean Network of arts presenters (CaribNet) established in 1997 in Aruba and subsequently registered in Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago (2008). CaribNet has an active membership in countries of the French, Spanish, Dutch and English-speaking Caribbean. You may visit our website: www.caribnetonline.com.
