The genius of Len Boogsie Sharpe was evident throughout this production. Boogsie played on almost every track on the album, on every instrument ranging from tenor pans to bass pans. The most lasting memory of all present at the Coral Sounds recording studio was that of Boogsie setting down a twelve (12) piece Bass Pan in a never before conceived configuration consisting of six floor drums from a nine bass set in the inner circle, and another six drums on the outer circle from a seven bass set. This was done to achieve the extra bass response and range and depth evident on this recording. This configuration was conceived on the spot in the recording studio, and Boogsie simply blew away by successfully executing every bass riff on every bass track on the album...

  • I will repeat it ad nauseum...You cannot mix matters with a competition…either we all play backiin-time music or fresh, original arrangements…it could never be a fair competition if anybody has an edge, and once you can play a tune you already know, you begin with an edge and then the entire competition is compromised in your favour..that's my opinion anyway…I am not at all surprised that All Stars won, I was not there in person, but I'm down here long enough to know the power of that arrangement…what is worse with Curry Tabanca is that they have been playing it at almost every instance over the many years since it's creation…and now they "compete" with it?…nah man...

  • Last week everybody was calling BOOGSIE a genius and Mozart and all kinda ah accolades when they thought he was going to defend the PAN GENIUS of TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO in the INTERNATIONAL PANORAMA.

Yesterday, when BOOGSIE decided to push and test MUSICAL BOUNDARIES at the risk of losing a BOGUS competition, everybody start dogging THE MAN ... like he is the NEW ANDY NARELL or what? I am chuckling because I always believed that ANDY was having an influence on BOOGSIE.

  • Cecil, who said that he never had to learn.    When we were playing football, did you ever see Boogsie playing with any team.

When we were playing football, he was home learning (practicing),  it is just that we were not aware of it at the time.

    • Sam, Boogsie lived two houses from me, I tell you he never had to learn, he just did. Gifted people are born like that.

  • As far as I am concerned (along with many others), he is undoubtedly and derevedly a steelpan genius.imho...

  • He IS a Pan Genius. he never had to learn, he just played.
