Pan Trinbago boss suggests splitting medium, large bands

Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - Long before she created history in becoming the first female president of Pan Trinbago on October 28, 2018, Beverly Ramsey-Moore had a sense of what to expect.

Almost two decades before, at her first official Pan Trinbago meeting in 2001, she had observed the organisation was not being run in a manner befitting its status as the world's governing body for the steelpan.

"I realised the organisation was being run like a parlour or an informal group," Ramsey-Moore told Sunday Newsday as she reflected on her first few months at the helm of the organisation.

....Said Ramsey-Moore: "The entire country should benefit from the joys of Panorama. They must benefit from that love and community spirit that the pan drives. We have the single pan finals in the east, the small band finals in the south and the medium and large in the north at the (Queen's Park) Savannah.

"I believe that because the finals goes until three o'clock in the morning, which is the medium and large, I think we can separate it and take one of the categories, perhaps the medium, to Tobago. We believe that national support in Tobago will come in a massive way where we will be able to raise more revenue," she added.

  • DO WE HAVE ENOUGH ACCOMODATION, FOR THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE, GOING THERE, , I DONT THINK SO,

  • After five months we are hearing about transporting bands to Tobago, I'm kinda worried about the next move.

  • Today, five months after receiving her instruments of appointment, Ramsey-Moore feels comforted by the strides her executive has made, mainly in restoring respectability to Pan Trinbago.

And while she believes they have also made headway in putting mechanisms in place to bolster transparency within the organisation, streamlining its operations to ensure optimum efficiency remains a work in progress.

For now, Ramsey-Moore is satisfied in having presided over what she considers to be an excellent Panorama 2019...

  • I don't think moving the medium band finals to Tobago would be wise. There is not the infrastructure there to move thousands of people and instruments over, where will they sleep, eat and when go back to Trinidad proper? I also don't personally think the Panorama Finals show was too long either! I did plan for it and took off work in advance, and it was long, but I enjoyed all of it very much! They have already cut the performances down 2 minutes and reduced the bands to 10 finalists. I don't want a shorter Finals, and I enjoyed a lot of the medium bands as well. I do wish Ramsey-Moore the best of luck and skill in her new position, I think she is the right one to be there now. I like the idea of improving the North stand area and the vendor rows needed a lot of improvement it seems.

  • While you are doing that, move the main Carnival parade to Tobago.

  • I heard Claude once say that Beverly is all about Beverly, so I'm reading today's Newsday and " I'm leading Pan Trinbago in new direction" headlining an article, in which she added " I see certain strengths in me etc.....and I stood up manos, manos ( I think she meant manos a manos ).

I and ME seems to be her favorite pronouns. I like WE better.
