  • Dear Panache Steel Orchestra, I enjoyed the virtual panorama and the pan solo competition last night. Although the soloists were young people, they had full command of the treble pan. The soloists played fluently and skillfully. Antigua and Barbuda, the OECS, and CARICOM are proud of you. You rendered compositions from various CARICOM States. Your pans were built by various pan builders from CARICOM. While all the soloists played the treble pan, I was impressed to see they played the cycle of fifth. The cycle of fifth was developed by Anthony Williams of Trinidad and Tobago. During the 1980s, Pan Trinbago moved a motion to standardize the cycle of fifth.

In terms of the panorama, all the bands played very well. The bands are young steel bands. They are not as old as Hells-gate which was formed in 1945.  But they sounded like potential national panorama champions.

All the pans were well-tuned and the timbre was at a very high standard. I  Look forward to seeing more steel-pan initiatives from Panache Steel Orchestra. I congratulate you on a job well done.
