As I watched the video of carnival in Sao Paulo Brazil 2013 I saw that their costumes are so much different to those in T&T, no bear breast or nakedness, I found it strange because they are known for nakedness, this made me ask the question why Trini going down the naked road?
These days we hear a lot about "change and evolve" but is anyone paying attention to the effect it has on our society?
In T&T we have a high murder rate amongst young people, we are known for our money laundering abilities, drug and arms trade. why should we add nudity at carnival to this list.
We can do something about the nudity at carnival, just let the authorities know that we are against it and ask them to outlaw it.

Glenroy I don't believe the mas bands today force you to play mas with them. They just advertise as anyone else. All their band launching is usually soldout way in advance, good business sense. As an example, HARTS band sells out their sections every year during the month of August, and keep their people too, also many other bands do the same. People get together to have a good time, please DON'T envy them. Don't tell me how to have a good time. If you want to chip down the street in a full canvas outfit in a steelband playing sailor continue, but don't tell me to join you. Don't try and bring Christianity into this, when Sparrow sang 'saltfish' years ago all who complaining about nudity on this forum, in their time, was only skinning their teeth and laughing, no complaints. The effect on society? Glenroy give me a damm break. Just yesterday a contract given to a ministry to pick up vagrants in port of spain and get paid for the amount you pick up, the person responsible decide to let go who he pick up and pick them up again, in order to get paid twice.

No one is trying to bring Christianity in anything, I guess the next thing you will say is all who doh want to see bear breast stay home. what we are up against here is some Trini people trying to make Brazil carnival trini carnival, we carnival has always been good, without the nudity.
I prefer nudity any day than the pelting of bottle and cutlass fight of long ago associated with playing mas in steelband.

Could it be that the focus has changed entirely from presenting a great mas display to impress and entertain, to maximizing profit by selling as many skimpy, overpriced costumes as possible.?
Could it be that many of us have gone from wishing to display magnificent, well designed costumes, to the narcissism of displaying our naked bodies?
In other words, it could be that we have allowed our annual celebration of culture, music, joy and artistry to degenerate into a corrupt celebration of greed and narcissism.
And that's the sadness of it all

Most Trinidadians don't play mas today. The costumes are too expensive and many are not taking the chance of taking public transport late in the evening to go home.
CRIME is a serious problem in Trinidad on any given day.
Many young trinis do play mas, almost all the middle and upper class teenagers, they do this because of the costumes, so to, the majority of trinis living abroad trying to escape the cold for a short time. The bikini and bead mas is the best for enjoying yourself on carnival days, the costumes are light, so you can move around with ease, sit anywhere, eat, drink, and all the services you need at your fingertips.
The problem here is the government need to reduce admission prices to the covered stands in Port of Spain so the public can view bands and try and make a profit. Also let UWI students design a program to simulate a consistent flow of bands across the stages on carnival days. In this way everyone will be happy.
If you want to see mas, you have to play mas. All who complaining, really not spending a cent to support anything. Steelband mas is not expensive, get involve. Bare breast, painted breast, etc. what is the problem?

Nothing is wrong with elders letting young people know that what they are doing is not acceptable.
