‘We have become a team’: Toronto Caribbean carnival producers join management board to help festival thrive

Toronto, Canada - ....For years, there’s been tension between masquerade bands, steelpan and calypso performers who produce the festival and the Festival Management Committee [FMC] which runs it.



Adding stakeholders to FMC as directors earlier this year has taken the tension away, presidents of the stakeholder groups said recently.

“We have become a team,” Terrence Wilson, president of the Ontario Steelpan Association said in an interview.

....Wilson, who became the steelpan community group’s president in 2018, said its foremost need is a home.

“Right now, it’s my house; we don’t have a set address,” and after summer, most pan bands must pay for storage, he said.
