The New Government of T&T during the Election campaign declared that the Pan Community would be given $2000000.00 for the winning Steelband.in the Panorama competition of 2011.
The same government last week voted in Parliament to take away $200.00 from each Pannist for the Panorama preliminaries competition of 2011.
There are 10,000 pannist for the Panorama preliminaries of 2011
Multiply the 10,000 pannist by $200.00 ...the result is $2000000.00.
One step forward and two steps backward.
The Pan Community in T&T should not be accepting this Fiasco.

Based on this discussion, it appears that the T&T government budgets a certain amount of dollars for culture, of which the steelband movement gets a portion.
I'd bet anything that the amount of money is preset, and the only decision being made is how the pot is split up.
in my opinion, the government should be up front about how much money is available, and then let the steelbands decide how that money should be divvied up, but I guess they don't trust pan people to be accountable with the money.
By the way, the money given to the steelband movement is not a dole; it is derived from income to the nation that is earned directly or indirectly by the steelband.
It would be a great revelation if an economist could figure out how much foreign revenue steelband activity adds to the nation's coffers.
Yes indeed Glenroy, they are playing games. What is ironic is that the steelpan community is probably far more accountable with the moneys given to them than any other section of the Trinidad and Tobago government. The whole world knows what the prizes are going to be well in advance every year. We know what the stipends are going to be. And know how many panists participated every year. We know the transportation cost, etc. Panorama is a very public affair. It's not too hard to figure out the math if you want to.
Now let's talk about the oil moneys and those type of agreements with foreign corporations. How much, where and why and to whom is the peoples money's being given to. It was announced that the airlines all over the world made stupid money and profits in 2010. How did Caribbean Airlines do?
This whole issue with pan is a smoke screen. Pick on the weakest and most hated and you can get away with murder. This is the oldest trick in the book.

End result is that we ( the Pan Community) are losing $1million in 2011.

Yes, indeed Salah. I don't know why this is so hard for the pan community to see. They were hustled in broad daylight. What an embarrassment..
