People DON'T UNDERSTAND the DECAY ISSUE with THE PAN. I BLINDLY understood it from childhood -- although I could not EXPRESS what I was hearing in words.
And, for decades, I kept looking for validation of my view. Then, about two years ago i was reading the TRIVIA site (where they live in the past) and the lead guitarist from the TRADE WINDS (from GUYANA) came on there and talked about the LIMITATIONS OF THE PAN because of the DECAY ISSUE ... well right away I called ST. ANNS HOSPITAL and told them to GIVE MY BED to somebody else because I am NOT CRAZY.
(KITCH, call HOTEL NORMANDY and tell them doh leave NO BREAKFAST for me!!!)
So when I saw that DUVONE picked that song, immediately I thought that he should KNOW BETTER.
Now, I have to say one thing: I have never liked ALL STARS STEELBAND. But the ALL STARS MANAGEMENT understands the DECAY ISSUE (if not academically -- EAR WISE) and they know how to REARRANGE the CALYPSO away from the original calypso version to an expression that is adaptable to the PAN (decay issues considered).
In summary: I think that DUVONE went OBAMA and let his ego get ahead of him!!!
PAN PEOPLE should WAKE UP and indulge in some FRANK DISCUSSIONS about the LIMITATIONS OF PAN MUSIC -- that discussion is 20 years DELAYED!!!
