Mesquite ISD launched Poteet’s steel drum band in January.
Mesquite, Texas, USA - For the last six weeks, Steve Kath has directed Poteet High School’s new steel drum band.
Starting at the beginning of the semester, Kath has held multiple rehearsals with percussion students from first and fourth periods.
“It’s something that I've wanted to do for several years, and the opportunity just kind of presented itself,” said Kath, who serves as the assistant band director focused on percussion at Poteet High School. “In December, I picked up a set of steel drums from a pan maker in Austin, and I brought them back to Mesquite.”
