Mighty Sparrow, the twentieth century's most famous performer of Calypso music, comes to #RestartStages! Light a candle and hold it up as the Trinidadian Calypso King and inimitable vocalist and storyteller brings the Caribbean Island fire to Lincoln Center for a career-spanning set of songs. Mighty Sparrow’s legacy spans nearly the entire history of recordings, from 78s to digital downloads, and his standing in 20th century music ranks alongside the greats of his generation. The preeminent calypsonian’s first performance in America since 2019 will include a selection of his greatest hits from a songwriting catalogue of over 600 tracks and more than 80 albums, including such Carnival classics as “Jean and Dinah,” “Sparrow Dead,” and “Mr. Walker.” For calypso fans both young and old, this promises to be the summer’s must-see concert.

  • For a man who supposed to have died many times and still holding his own I say utmos respect is in order. Besides being soley responsible for bringing calypso to what it is today he was one not to back out of any charity work. Even invited adoloscent treenagers to his home in an attempt to avoid violence and the law.  Not much is mentioned about these things as much as his performances but it is who the man is. Many times he demonstrated his frustration in a hostile manner but many good policemen disciplined law breakers with a whip and sent them home instead of arrested and imprisoned.. Apart fom having the most unique voice with a natural three octave range his versaility could be compared to Sammy Davis Jr, Nat King Cole and ,many others..I once attended a two hour show where he showed his unlimited talent by impersonating forementioned singers. Yes he claimed to be the calypso king of the world and yes he went ahead and proved it,   many times..
