...The Royal Guard leads
Resplendent in uniforms with gold on black capped with the red and green colours of the nation, they marched with flawless precision and immaculate timing. Later in the programme, the RGO Steel Band, Drum Corps and Big Band would perform, displaying tremendous musicality, virtuosity and sheer talent.
When the Steel Band played Iron Man and Netty Netty, they did not march, but performed in concert. It was amazing to witness soldiers becoming passionate musicians. Remarkable dexterity and the results of extremely rigorous and disciplined training were demonstrated as drum sticks were flipped with precise synchronicity and there was not a single soldier out of step or a wrong note sounded in a program lasting two hours.
The bands of the major three Armed Forces performed according to the order in which they were established - the Royal Army of Oman (RAO), the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) and the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO). The Royal Oman Police Band (ROP), which was created in 1972, has grown into a top-notch professional band winning international awards. The ROP also have a Women's Police Band and a Women's Bagpipe and Drum Band, members from which performed with the main band...
