The term ‘breaking boundaries’, truly embodies the life of this pioneer in pan, Mr. Bobby Mohammed. He has represented a certain demographic within the steel pan community and is proof that, in the steelpan world, the only thing that matters when coming to acceptance, is your ability to produce good music. The first arranger to establish the ‘large band’ in panorama; he has won the National panorama title twice; he toured the world with the Cavaliers Steel Orchestra reaching all the way to Australia, which are just some of his many accomplishments.
His passing would represent something different to each of us. To me, what it is, is a wakeup call to our movement. Policies are needed for how we treat with our pan pioneers who have paved the way for our instrument and our artform. To this southern icon in the steelpan movement, we say rest in peace.
Proud southerner,
Aquil Arrindell
