  • I would use the word Steelband here because this is where we should direct all our energies. Moving to the next level will need all pan people, young, old and inbetween, politician and ordinary person both foreign and local. All this must happen  NOW because the longer we wait is the more the steelband is pushed aside.

  • This article is a relevant today as it was in yesteryear. Errol McLeod is the Minster of Labour in the current PP Government. PT is an extended arm of the Government. The only real change, not small change that will effect the dynamics of the relationship to pan workers is to form a Trade Union to look after their interest, period. Once that occurs, the pan movement will stand a far better chance to move forward ever, backward never.
  • Did we hear this prior to 2001? How 'bout post 2001? I refer to odw's questions #1 thru #4, answer them correctly, get 100%, and A.T.E.O.T.D the questions remain the same in 2030.

Just like the UNCPNM political 'musical chairs', change, exchange, small change...........................CHUMP CHANGE.

That is ALL the  panman gets. Maybe that is ALL they deserve.

  • A recent discussion started by Cecil Hinkson “Steelband Beyond 2014” got a response from Khari Codrington, he posted “the future of pan lies in the hands of the youth. Musical compositions, New playing techniques, Experimentation and Development etc— The whole concept has to change. QUESTIONS need to be asked and solutions applied. (1) What type of music will draw young people to pan in great numbers? (2) What type of marketing strategy is required to stage successful pan events? (3) Is the Panorama type band effective on the road? (4) How can the steelbands effectively compete with the DJ's and Soca bands in fetes?”

My question to Kari was, can he identify anyone at present that can take on the leadership role that will advance some of the points he raised.

A possible solution I see is to have the voting members create a new criteria for their leadership in Pan Trinbago, by that I mean select someone who will serve the best interest of the art-form, someone who can incorporate proper business and diplomatic skills to help advance the concerns expressed by Kari and take action on what Mc Leod proposed in 2001.

The new leadership or group of partners should be able to develop a plan of action that will detail how pan will be used year round through their marketing and promotion.

Create a working strategy for building international relationships with media groups and music organizations and develop new programs (pan events) that will help to identify the next Liam Teague or Mia Gormandy.

  • This is one of the Best Article I have ever seen about "What Pan Needs", I have seen it mentioned before but nobody is taking it to the next level,
