I definitely will Nominate George D Goddard aka "The Ghost who Talks" for President of Pantrinbago, he is very  Knowledgeable and I believe he will do a Great job (at least better than the present Pres' MR Diaz). I will also give MR Ian Franklin a Position in Pantrinbago.

  • Bede; I say AW, Anthony Williams even though he's visually challenged, he can see futher than these blind bat's that's running it at present...

  • REMEMBER: The best coach in the NBA is (old) “Pop”, and the keenest NBA President is (old) “Pat”.

WISDOM IS AGELESS, and usually possessed by those who have AGED MORE!!!

On August 5, 2014, When Steel Talks (“WST”) member, Bede Lopez, posted a discussion, “NAME ONE OR TWO PEOPLE YOU WOULD NOMINATE AS PRESIDENT OF PAN TRINBAGO”. Mr. Lopez stated thathe, “[d]efiitely will nominate George D. Goddard aka “The Ghost who Talks”, for President”. Mr. Lopez also stated that he would “[a]lso give MR Ian Franklin a Position”.

In response, WST member, “patrick” stated that he “[w]ould nominate Nigel “Manish” Robinson” and provided Mr. Robinson’s impressive resume. Patrick then added his reasons for rejecting Mr. Lopez’s “nomination”; that Mr. Robinson is “young”, in comparison to Mr. Goddard. Patrick continued, “We need people who are young that have ideas, encourage the youth, have a vision for the future.”

He then admonished Mr. Lopez, saying, “Don’t look for your friend. Pan today as we all know need to be mobile, on the road, not on truck, after all these years did Goddard gave this any thought? On panorama finals night, where the North stands are always empty, how is Goddard going to fill these stands? How is Goddard going to encourage pan fetes?” Patrick, then ended his comments with, “For many years now, this ‘Pantrinbago’ system works just like the old politicians…recycling themselves for over 60 years now, just to ‘eat ah food mentality’.”

Firstly, I would like to thank Mr. Bede Lopez for his kind suggestion. Anytime a servant receives appreciation, it makes the job (of serving) easier. Mr. Lopez is also one of the more-matured voices that got my attention, and helped me (shall I say) “soften my tone”. lol. I would also like to thank Patrick for reminding me how young I really am, and how sharp his memory is. You see, Patrick is one of those WST trolls who hate every part of my being, because I “lit him up” on that site. He has had it in for me ever since.

Secondly, I have never met Mr. Lopez; we became acquainted on WST, and, obviously, he appreciates my sharing of ideas and research. Maybe, he also appreciates the fact that I am George “Sonny” Goddard’s son, but that is a testament of my dad’s reputation, and not of my own.

Thirdly, if Patrick had been following my posts, he would have known that I have openly stated that I have no intention of being any part of Pan Trinbago, much less becoming the President. When I published the Steel Pan Blueprint For Success on WST (2011), I clearly stated that I do notconsider myself a “quality candidate” for the position.

Fourthly, while Patrick questions my abilities to fill empty stands, to have “pan on the road”, or to “encourage pan fetes”, he has not shared with us how his nomination will accomplish those tasks. I guess, to Patrick, if he does not hear the sound, the distant tree never fell. There are those around the tree, who can verify that I have presented clear ideas as to how we accomplish the things he seems to care about. ALL he has to do is READ!

Fifthly, as you all (with the exception of Patrick) know, whenever I am introduced to an “unknown”, I like to do my research. His nomination –Nigel “Manish” Robinson, is one of those unknowns. So, I decided to “check him out”. This is what I discovered on his Facebook page:

    1. He is a Rudolph “Rudy” Giuliani fan. I am not. I consider Giuliani to be one of the most-racist White Americans, and I wouldn’t read ANYTHING he wrote! Obviously, Robinson and I differ on that issue.
    2. His only “Favorite Quotes”, comes from another racist –Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi hated Black South Africans, and I am sure he would have hated Black Trinbagonians, i.e. those who “invented” pan. So, again, we differ, as Gandhi is not someone I look up to.
    3. He has a diploma from UWI. I have a B.A. from Florida Memorial University; with Honors. As a matter of fact, he attended a “senior comprehensive”, I passed for my “first choice” –Trinity College, then went on to John D., where I studied Mechanical Engineering. So, we are both “educated”, although we took different paths.
    4. In terms of age, based on our high school dates, I am just over 10 years his senior. I left Trinity in 1977; he left El Dorado Senior Comprehensive in 1990.
    5. He is from Arouca (East); I’m from Diego Martin (West).
    6. He is a former Microsoft Certified Trainer, and I am a current Paralegal/Legal Assistant as well as a licensed private investigator in the state of Florida.
    7. The vast majority of the music groups he likes are White groups. He likes one group with pan in it –Moyenne. Other than Babyface and Michael Jackson, he does not seem to like Black music, and seems to have a fondness for Latino culture. While I appreciate all cultures, I prefer Black music, and my FB Likes includes our pan masters like Boogsie, Othello, and Robbie. So, we differ there, CLEARLY!
    8. He is a member of an “African Diaspora” group; I started one.
    9. He likes “Trance Music”, and I do not like ANYTHING with “Trance” as a precursor. (I must really be old! lol.)
    10. He is into personal wealth-building, and I am fascinated by socialism and “fair share” wealth-building. I admit, I like “nice things” too, but not at the expense of my environment and others. (Not saying he is any different.)

Finally, again; I have no intentions of leading Pan Trinbago or becoming a member. I would passionately support anyone (Robinson included) who can answer Patrick’s concerns, as we share those concerns. Those who know me, know that much about me. I chose my role, and I am extremely happy in it. So, I am in competition with no one, and my ONLY focus is in helping to place the local steelbands and their members in a better position than they are today. Again, thanks, Mr. Bede Lopez, for your thoughtful gesture, but BOTH you and I know how well that will sell, even if I was interested. lol. My family –my dad, sacrificed enough; don’t you think? Obviously, Patrick is out of the proverbial woods with that issue. More power.

    George D. Goddard.

    • Arguably agreed 100% in accord, period.

  • With the Pan Trinbago election coming up I would like to repost this Discussion "Name one or two people you would nominate as President of Pantrinbago".

  • Boy yuh funny!

  • Ok - this is a good discussion - the person to be nominated does not necessarily have to be knowledgeable in everything Pan related - does not have to be a tuner/arranger/ace panist/teacher etc..

What the person must possess is business acumen. With ideas to operate the organization as a for-profit business and promote the art form world-wide. He can hire pan persons as necessary to achieve success.

    • kaiso, I believe you may be wrong. You cannot take the manager of HI LO for example, and ask him to manage the Trinidad and Tobago banking system or for that matter manage road construction in Trinidad and Tobago. Where pan is concern, you need to select or appoint someone with  comprehensive knowledge in all areas of pan, or else you will be eaten alive, that is, you will be outsmarted by your peers when money arrives from the government. Question here kaiso,  how many people in Trinidad and Tobago got jailed for corruption?  Thats the reason why we continue to recycle or exchange names many are familiar with to lead this organization. Check the names bloggers mention already, I left Trinidad over 20 years ago and many of these names I am familiar with. Its not change its exchange, a way of keeping everyone in the loop.

      • We recycle political parties, don't we?? All in the name of corruption.

      • I see your point Patrick about the recycling of people in positions of power, but this is why I believe the President must be foremost a Business man/ Marketing genius who could employ honest Pan persons, for example Ray Holman, to tend to the Pan aspect of the organization.

This require a re-structure of the organization hierachy and afford the President time to focus on Marketing and promoting the entity. First order of business is to put the politicians on the hot seat regarding why Pan Trinbago's head quarters is still not complete.

        • I would put the politicians on the 'hot seat', not because of the incomplete HQ, but because they shell out millions of taxpayer dollars every year and don't give a damn ''wey de money goin'". Somebody needs to teach 'em how to spell akountahbility.
