NBC’s Sing Off Christmas Special “OK” - But America is Still Singing the Afro Blues
NBC takes it where it hurts for Judges’ snafu - Panorama, take note
New York, USA - According to TV Guide, the November 28 two-hour finale of “The Sing-Off” plummeted 37 percent in the coveted demo from a year ago - and lost some 20 percent in viewership. No surprise there. You don’t have to be a brain surgeon to figure this one out. Once Afro Blue was eliminated by the judges a week before finals - it was good night! Folks always want to see the best against the best.
....this evening’s Christmas show was okay and enjoyable. It featured past Sing Off champions from season one and two - Nota and Committed, along with this season’s champion Pentatonix. Other groups also participated.
On the joint performance of the classic “Ooh Child” by Afro Blue and Committed, judge Ben Folds’ comments - “I think everyone, not even so secretly, looks up to you two groups as the standard. You guys are absolutely amazing.” A severe case of too little, too late - you think?

I hear what people are saying about this - and while it's an interesting dynamic to examine for the sake of discussion, i honestly think it has NOTHING to do with panorama judging. Nor do i think it's anywhere on the radar of panorama judges, and they won't be 'taking note' of it at all. so i'm really not sure why this keeps showing up here in the WST forums.
Irrespective of what you think Catt the similarities between panorama and the sing off were striking. I was very pleased to see that so many steel pan men and women were into the sing off. Have you ever looked at who the panorama judges are? Most of them have vocals as their forte. It save to assume over the past three years they watched the show. I know for a fact that a few champion panorama arrangers were watching the sing off.
Look at these prominent panorama adjudicators .
Joslynne Carr-Sealey: a principal singer with the Trinidad Opera Company and a well-known vocal coach
Victor Prescod: Performer, Vocal Coach and Steelband Arranger
Richard Pierre: Steelband and Music Adjudicator nationally acclaimed baritone
Nubia Williams: Panorama and Groovy Soca Monarch adjudicator
Marilyn Hunte: Junior Panorama Marilyn Hunte, jazz vocalist and composer
Dr. Jessel Murray: Steelband Adjudicator, director of the University of the West Indies Chorale and UWI Steel Ensemble

The late: Dr. Geraldine Connor: Vocal coach, singer, steelband arranger, premiere choir conductor, theater director, director of the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah
I think it is great that WST doesn't treat the pan community as though they were mental music midgets and realize that the music interest of the pan community is wide and varied. WST has always been at the forefront of pulling panmen's coattail on what they need to be paying attention to long before it becomes fashionable.
I think you are suffering from some sing off judge Ben Fold's syndrome on this one, it just went way over your head. LOL
