New York, USA - When Steel Talks (WST) tagged along with Basement Recordings as they began their annual calendar of panyard recording sessions and productions. First stop was Despers USA Steel Orchestra located on Classon Avenue, in Brooklyn, New York, who were the first to be captured last evening at their Pan Loft, performing Tunapuna Scanty’s “Bandoleros.” Despers USA joins the Basement Recordings line-up to be featured on the organization’s Pan in New York series of Pan-4-Life CD productions. One of North America’s premier orchestras, Despers USA has six panorama championship titles under their belt, and look forward to adding another one in 2009.

I will like WST to clarify the statement in regards to Despers USA's (6) Panorama victories.
The language should have read, Despers USA has (9) Panorama wins, three as Metro Steel, at Panorama 1982, 1987 and 1990, and six consecutive wins as Despers USA, at Panorama 1993 through 1998.
(FYI) I published a booklet in regards to the Brooklyn Panorama of 1972 to 2008. They are being sold at Despers USA's Pan Loft.

What you have stated is more of a spiritual legacy, but is technically inaccurate. It would not stand up in a court of law. Despers USA and Metro Steel are legally separate organizations. Despers USA came about because they 'lost' their name as Metro Steel when it was legally claimed by another. And - the 'new' incarnation of Metro Steel then became a steel orchestra in its own right, while the 'original' Metro had to make do with "Despers USA."
Consider athletes as an example. There are Kenyan runners who are now American citizens, and run under the American flag. But before, they ran under the flag of Kenya, their country of birth, and won medals as native Kenyans. Now there are some Kenyans who might say: once a Kenyan, always Kenyan, period, especially if they continue their winning streaks, but as Americans. Native Kenyans might be pissed, but c'est la vie.
But in a court of law, America won those races and claims those medals, not Kenya. And further - it does not matter how many medals the Kenyans win as Americans, Kenya cannot claim any medals they win once their citizenship changed to that of American.
In the same context and as a correlation, one cannot categorize Despers USA's six wins as a historical accuracy. Members of Despers USA even those who were part of the original Metro, would not be able to legally claim those three previous panorama wins as those of Despers USA.

Thanks for educating me about the legal system. My reason for responding to WST was because of their language, "They hold the record with six panorama wins; a feat still unrivalled by any other NY Steel Orchestra." That is an incorrect claim, since Sonatas Steel Orchestra has (8) victories.
If they had stated six CONSECUTIVE paonorama wins we would not be sharing E Mails.
If he defunct Flamingoes of Trinidad had won a panorama I would never state that Exodus has won panorama (5) times.
